GSL Education are currently seeking a full-time Social, Emotional, and Mental Health Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to join a supportive secondary school in Dibden Purlieu, Hampshire, starting from September 2025. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to provide vital one-to-one and small group support to students dealing with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression.
Working closely with teaching and supporting school staff, you will help create a nurturing and structured learning environment where pupils can feel safe, supported, and motivated to succeed. A permanent contract may be offered following a successful probation period.
As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will be:
Provide tailored emotional and academic support to students with SEMH needs.
Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement.
Assist in classroom management and promote positive behaviour strategies.
Collaborate with teachers, SENCOs, and other professionals to implement support plans.
Maintain accurate records of pupil progress and behaviour.
Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and respectful school environment.
Assist learners dealing with challenges like anxiety, low mood, and social difficulties.
Requirements for SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA):
Previous experience working with students with SEMH needs (desirable).
A compassionate and understanding nature with strong interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain calm, patient, and consistent under pressure.
A flexible, proactive attitude to support across school settings.
CACHE Level 2/3 or NVQ in Childcare/Teaching Assistant is advantageous.
Have an updated CV and an Enhanced DBS registered on the Update Service or willingness to apply for one.
