Overview
Job summary: The stop smoking practitioner is responsible for supporting and facilitating the delivery of smoking cessation programmes within the Banes Wellness Service across Bath and North East Somerset. We have opportunities for new practitioners across Bath and North East Somerset. Clinics run from Monday to Saturday, 09:00–20:00.
You will receive your own cohort of patients and provide Face to Face / Virtual clinics to support and maintain quit attempts, and you will help to improve the accessibility of the Stop Smoking Service through proactive promotion of the smoking cessation programme and referral pathways with key health care providers, allied professionals, community events, local agencies and the general public.
This can be a challenging but rewarding role. You will be part of both the smoking cessation team and the wider service team. In-house training including data security, first aid and safeguarding is provided.

Main duties
The ideal candidate would preferably be registered with the NCSCT as a Stop Smoking Practitioner and have experience of working in this role.

* Have a UK Driving licence and access to a personal car.
* Possess a minimum of 1 year experience working in a community-based smoking cessation service.
* Are experienced in using behaviour change models within a work context.
* Can demonstrate a clear understanding of the range and appropriate use of different smoking cessation interventions.
* Display strong knowledge of the harmful effects of smoking, smoking as an addiction behaviour, withdrawal, and relapse.
* Are flexible with good time management and planning skills.
* Are interested in motivating and supporting both individuals in virtual and community-based settings.
* Can raise public awareness and provide consistent healthy lifestyle messaging relevant to the health of the community in a multi-cultural setting.
* Have experience in building strong links and relationships with diverse groups, organisations and agencies.

Job responsibilities
MAIN PURPOSE
Our Stop Smoking Practitioners deliver one-to-one and group stop smoking interventions within a wide range of settings, including evening and weekend work in B&NES. The post holder will work flexibly across the borough to utilise skills, knowledge and experience fully.
This post will:
* Provide information to smokers to enable them to make an informed choice to stop smoking and support the smoker with an evidence-based quit programme.
* Develop and improve accessibility of the B&NES Integrated Service through proactive promotion of the smoking cessation programmes and referral pathways among primary and secondary care services and other key providers.
* Provide ongoing support to a caseload of referrals, supporting each quit attempt in line with national and company standards.
* Contribute to the planning, delivery and development of the stop smoking service including specific project work.
Summary of responsibilities and duties
* Adhere to service protocols and procedures regarding supportive pharmacotherapy medication.
* Collate accurate clinical records in line with national OHID/NCSCT requirements and input data into the service web-based database in a timely and professional manner.
* Support the service in delivering key performance indicators and activity as set out within the service specification.
* Support delivery of promotion activity across B&NES in line with the service marketing strategy.
* Work flexibly to provide a coordinated service across localities, including some evening and weekend work where required.
* Maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge, undertake evidence-based practice and promote new and innovative practice.
* Contribute to analysis and evaluation of designated programmes to improve service quality.
* Identify issues or concerns to line manager for appropriate action.
* Contribute to ongoing needs assessment, audits and governance programmes as part of the health improvement agenda.
* Plan and deliver an accessible cessation service within the delivery team area.
* Provide cessation support including one-to-one, group and app-based support.
* Contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of smoking cessation training.
* Commit to own professional development aligned with the Knowledge and Skills Framework and appraisal system.
* Ensure accurate uploading of client data onto the database and maintain client confidentiality.
* Ensure follow-up with clients in line with service protocol and maintain accurate records.
* Maintain an up-to-date electronic diary accessible to the Stop Smoking team.
* Assist in producing reports and data analyses to improve service delivery and client care.
* Use motivational, influencing and negotiating skills to increase client motivation and adherence to stop smoking.
* Work within data protection policies to handle personally identifiable data.
* Contribute to training, seminars and presentations across agencies and organisations.

Qualifications
Essential
* GCSEs including Mathematics and English (at least 5 subjects, A-C).
Desirable
* NCSCT Smoking Cessation Certified.
* Health degree or equivalent advantageous; training provided.
Special Conditions
* Evening/weekend working, travel across B&NES, and access to a car with business use insurance.
* Enhanced DBS disclosure required for working with vulnerable groups.
* Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of adults, young people and children.
Experience
* Minimum 1 year experience in smoking cessation programmes across settings (community, primary care, in-patient).
* NCSCT Accredited/Registered Stop Smoking Practitioner.
* Experience with adults, young people and children in 1-2-1 and group settings.
* Experience using behaviour change models and working in multi-cultural settings.
* Experience meeting challenging targets and delivering outcomes.
