Are you a recent graduate looking to take your first step into education? Or an experienced Cover Supervisor ready for a fresh opportunity? We are working in close partnership with a large, highly respected multi-academy trust of secondary schools across Birmingham, and we’re recruiting for full-time Graduate Teaching Assistants and Cover Supervisors to join their teams this September.

About the Trust:

The schools in this trust are known for their inclusive, community-focused ethos and commitment to developing both students and staff. With a network of secondary schools across multiple Birmingham neighbourhoods, including Bournville, Erdington, & Sutton Coldfield, so there’s a strong likelihood we can place you in a school close to where you live.

Each school within the trust has its own unique character, but all share the same values:

Outstanding pastoral care

A relentless focus on student progress and inclusion

Highly supportive leadership and mentoring structures

A clear path for career development and permanent opportunities

What’s the Difference Between the Roles?

Graduate Teaching Assistant (TA):
As a TA, you’ll work closely with teaching staff to support students in and out of the classroom, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). You may be assigned to a specific year group or department and will often work 1:1 or with small groups. This role is ideal for graduates looking to gain school-based experience before moving on to teacher training or educational psychology.
Experience required: Prior classroom experience is essential – ideally in a support capacity with SEND students.

Cover Supervisor:
As a Cover Supervisor, you’ll step in to deliver lessons when the regular teacher is absent. Using the lesson plans provided, you’ll manage the classroom, keep students engaged, and ensure work is completed. This role requires confidence, resilience, and strong classroom management skills.
Experience required: You must have prior experience leading a classroom—this could be through previous Cover Supervisor roles, working as an HLTA, or teaching experience (qualified or unqualified).

What We Offer:

Roles within a supportive and forward-thinking trust of schools

Opportunities in various areas across Birmingham – likely there’s a school close to you

Ongoing training and CPD opportunities

A potential route into teacher training via the trust’s internal programmes

Friendly, dedicated consultants who will support you throughout your placement

Requirements:

A university degree or equivalent

Experience working in a classroom is essential (TA or Cover Supervisor capacity)

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

A positive, proactive attitude and a passion for education

A valid DBS on the update service or willingness to obtain one
