The post holder will provide a clerical and reception service for Day Surgery.
To answer general queries and carry out administrative tasks to ensure the smooth running of the department.
The Day Surgery Unit (DSU) has a high turnover currently running 5 Theatres, specialising in a range of surgical disciplines includingOrthopaedics, General Surgery, Gynaecology, Plastics, Dermatology and Pain.
To assist with all administration duties, including locating and preparing patient notes.
To work closely with clinical colleagues to ensure patients receive good quality care.
To organise own day to day work tasks. Using own initiative within standard procedures and policies, advice will be available as needed.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for meeting and greeting of patients on day of surgery. Communicating in a sensitive and caring manner where patientscan be anxious prior to their procedure.
To book patients into the department and ensure the patient information is recorded accurately onto the system.
To locate and prepare patient notes in a timely and organised manner.
To communicate with Day Surgery staff, Communicate with members of the multi-disciplinary team such as pre-assessment clinic(PAC) and scheduling teams.
Work regularly and closely with nurses, ODPS, healthcare support workers surgical staff and admin staff.
Works as part of a clerical team to provide support to the Day Surgery Service.
Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times in line with the Data Protection Act and Trust policy.
Attend regular team meetings and keep up to date with changes to policies/procedures within the department.
Keep up with mandatory online training and audit days to improve knowledge, skills and enhance.

* To gain knowledge of administrative systems, admission, patient information systems, hospital departments, clerical procedures, and data input procedures acquired through on-the-job training
