Overview
Seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Managers to oversee a range of automation and control system projects from design through to commissioning. This is a hands-on leadership role, requiring strong technical expertise, commercial acumen, and the ability to manage budgets, subcontractors, client relationships, and project teams.
You will be a key member of the management team, contributing to business operations, supporting sales and enquiries, and providing monthly updates on project financials and performance.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership:
* Take full ownership of assigned projects from concept to delivery.
* Ensure all projects meet agreed scope, budget, timelines, and quality standards.
* Coordinate project work schedules and provide regular progress updates to clients.
* Review and approve design documentation.
* Manage procurement of equipment and supervise subcontractors.
* Visit sites for key project milestones and oversee technical decisions with engineering teams.
Team & Stakeholder Management:
* Facilitate clear communication between project teams, management, and clients.
* Act as the primary point of contact for customers and suppliers, fostering strong relationships.
* Build customer trust through meetings, presentations, and timely documentation.
* Identify operational challenges early and communicate risks effectively to all stakeholders.
* Mentor and support colleagues, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Commercial & Compliance:
* Monitor project costs, track milestones, and deliver monthly cost-value reconciliations.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety standards and relevant regulations.
* Manage contractual obligations and ensure full compliance with client requirements.
* Support sales activities by contributing to bids and cost-effective technical solutions.
Candidate Profile
Background & Experience:
* Proven experience delivering automation/control system projects (PLC, HMI, Drives, SCADA).
* Previous work with a systems integrator is highly desirable.
* Industry exposure in sectors such as Food & Beverage, FMCG, Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Process, Manufacturing, or Utilities.
* Good understanding of automation software platforms (Rockwell, Siemens, Wonderware, Ignition).
* 10+ years in the automation industry, with at least 5 years in management or technical leadership.
Skills & Attributes:
* Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects.
* Excellent communication skills - for technical and non-technical audiences.
* Commercially aware, with a proactive, positive approach to problem-solving.
* Systematic and detail-oriented, yet adaptable and eager to learn.
* Comfortable using project management tools (Microsoft Project, RACI, Risk Registers, Change Control).
* Competent in Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Professional accreditation (or working towards one) is a plus.
* Familiarity with CDM regulations is advantageous.
* Full UK driving licence (or legal right to drive in the UK).
Location & Travel
Primarily office-based, with regular travel to client sites for meetings, commissioning, and project oversight.
