Job Opportunity: Project Manager for Lesnes 500
Bexley Council, in partnership with The Friends of Lesnes Abbey and Woods (FOLAW), has secured funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund (NLHF) to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the dissolution of Lesnes Abbey. The Lesnes 500 programme spans 2 years and includes various events, activities, and a small capital programme.
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of this diverse programme. The ideal candidate will have a background in externally funded community participation programmes, formal and informal learning, volunteer coordination, event delivery, and partnership collaboration. You will work closely with local communities, partners, and stakeholders to ensure high-quality outcomes.
Partnerships
The project involves key partners, including:
* Friends of Lesnes Abbey & Woods (Woodland Festival and exhibition)
* North West Kent Countryside Partnership (early years and community engagement)
* Creative Nature HQ & Forest Club (volunteer expansion and woodland crafts)
* Ruined Theatre (new play on abbey history)
* DigVentures (community archaeological dig)
Responsibilities
The Project Manager will be responsible for:
* Overseeing partnership and commissioned project elements
* Marketing and liaising with partners and the Bexley Communications Team
* Chairing the Lesnes 500 Steering Group
* Managing evaluation strategies, budgets, and reporting to NLHF
* Ensuring health and safety compliance across all activities
* Managing grant funding in accordance with guidelines
Qualifications and Experience
* Degree in Heritage, Culture, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
* Experience managing National Lottery Heritage Funded or similar grant programmes
* Proven ability to work with multiple partners and manage partnership agreements
* Experience in event and programme management
* Strong financial management skills
* Volunteer coordination experience
* Skilled in marketing across social media, content writing, and working with design teams
* Experience in project evaluation and strategy development
