Senior Economist - Climate Policy, Regulatory and Institutional Reforms
The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is Financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow in Asia and beyond—focusing on sustainable infrastructure. Since beginning operations in Beijing in 2016, AIIB has grown to 110 approved members worldwide, with a capital of USD 100 billion and a AAA credit rating.
The Economics Department provides thought leadership and ensures the economic sustainability of AIIB-financed projects. It is organized into five pillars: (a) macroeconomics and finance, (b) project economics and finance, (c) research and development impact, (d) crosscutting issues including climate, and (e) ecosystem development.
We are seeking senior economists to support AIIB's policy-based lending aligned with climate change commitments. Successful candidates will work within interdepartmental teams to initiate, implement, and monitor climate-focused policies and reforms. Responsibilities include:
1. Assessing and designing economic policies, institutions, regulations, and reforms to advance climate plans and promote investments in related infrastructure.
2. Engaging in policy dialogues with country authorities.
3. Assessing macroeconomic and budget frameworks for policy-based lending.
4. Contributing to research, thought leadership, and macroeconomic monitoring related to climate and environmental issues.
Requirements:
* Postgraduate degree in economics (PhD preferred) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in international organizations, investment banks, think tanks, government agencies, or financial institutions.
* Strong expertise in climate change disciplines such as energy economics, environmental economics, climate finance, and transition planning.
* Experience in macroeconomic and fiscal policy setting related to policy-based lending is a plus.
* Research publications in climate economics or policy are advantageous.
* Experience in applied climate policy, country dialogues, and policy-based financing is essential.
* Knowledge of NDCs, institutional contexts, governance, and infrastructure projects is desirable.
* Effective diplomatic skills and excellent communication skills in English are required.
* Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and in teams, and adaptability in a multicultural environment.
