Assistant Financial Accountant (Farnborough, UK)
The Assistant Financial Accountant will be responsible for day‑to‑day financial accounting for the Kenya entity under IFRS, including journal posting, monthly balance sheet reconciliations, and support for specific accounting processes within the UK entity. The role also involves finance‑led projects and Kenya tax requirements under the direction of the Financial Control Manager.
Responsibilities
* Full ownership of IFRS accounting for the Kenya entity – post all journals, including accruals, prepayments, and month‑end adjustments.
* Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations as part of the month‑end close process.
* Investigate and resolve reconciling items promptly.
* Support Kenya tax activities.
* Ownership of employee expenses, covering policy, processes, systems, and compliance.
* Support month‑end and year‑end reporting activities.
* Provide support to the wider finance function, including the UK entity.
Tax & Compliance Support (Kenya)
* Support ongoing accounting for Kenya taxes (VAT, withholding tax, corporation tax) under guidance of the Financial Control Manager.
* Develop understanding of local tax requirements and ensure accurate, well‑controlled processes.
UK Entity Support
* Post bank transactions for the UK entity.
* Full ownership of employee expenses – policy, governance, process design, SAP Concur/AMEX administration, user guidance, compliance, optimisation.
* Assist with reconciliations and ad‑hoc accounting activities as required.
Projects & Process Improvement
* Support finance projects, process and system improvements.
* Assist with establishing and maintaining robust accounting controls.
* Support audit requests and finance queries as needed.
Key Systems
* Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365)
* SAP Concur (expenses)
* Microsoft Office (predominantly Excel)
Requirements / Qualifications
* Part‑qualified ACCA (or equivalent), or actively studying.
* Relevant experience in a finance or accounting role.
* IFRS knowledge or exposure.
* Experience posting journals and preparing balance sheet reconciliations.
* Comfortable working with accounting systems and Excel.
* Exposure to management accounting.
* Strong attention to detail and ownership mindset.
* Well organised, proactive, and able to manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
* Willingness to learn unfamiliar areas (e.g., Kenya tax concepts).
* Confident and clear communication, able to work with stakeholders across the business.
