About Options Fife Residential - Lorimer

Our Options (Residential) Fife service is a full-time, residential house offering long-term residential care forchildren and young people with complex learning and physical disabilities. We provide a loving, nurturing homefor our supported young people who live with us for many years.

What we are looking for....

Our relief workers play a crucial role in supporting our team. This work is offered on a casual, hourly paid basis toprovide cover during staff absence and/or particularly busy periods. Availability should be specified on yourapplication form. Experience in this type of work is preferred however we will consider all applications.

Every child and young person has the right to flourish and they are at the heart of everything we do. As a YoungPeople’s Worker, you will play a fundamental role in ensuring that our young people are supported to live theirbest lives. Not without its challenges and demands, this is a highly rewarding role. You will provide enablingsupport to ensure the highest level of physical, personal, and emotional care to support our young people withdifferent daily activities. These activities can include swimming, football, arts and crafts and otherinterests. Each of our young people has a personalised plan to help them achieve their goals.

Working at Options (Residential) Fife, you will become part of a highly skilled, experienced, and established team.You will have a supported induction programme, with access to an extensive training programme which includesEpilepsy training, Moving and Handling training (including specialised training to assist supported people withmovement) and CALM training.

Ideally, candidates will have social care experience, an understanding of complex needs and disability and relevantexperience of working with children or young people. You will hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevantprofessional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above, for example: SVQ 3 Social Services (Children and YoungPeople) plus an HNC. You must also be able to demonstrate awareness of the key elements of working with peopleaffected by disability as well as an understanding of, and commitment to young people’s rights.

This service operates a residential rota and, as part of this, you will be asked to work evenings, weekends, nights,public holidays and the occasional sleepover.

About Options Ayrshire

Our Service is a busy respite care unit for children and young people with additional support needs, includingcomplex learning and physical disabilities. As well as providing short residential breaks the service offersoutreach to families and is also involved in the managing and running of an after school club as well as a busyEaster and Summer play scheme.

Based in a quiet, residential street in Prestwick, our disability support service offers a safe, homely environmentfor a child to come and stay for a short break that gives their families a rest from their caring role. Duringthat break, children enjoy a range of fun activities and experiences with our staff who specialise in takingcare of children with disabilities. Our service is very much a ‘home from home’ for the children who stay withus there.

What we are looking for...

As a Young People’s Worker you will play a fundamental role in ensuring that the young people you work with have thebest possible experience in working towards their objectives, in line with their care plan, supporting childrento progress within their individual outcomes. Whilst not without its challenges and demands, this is a highlyrewarding role, where the work we do has a demonstrable impact on each young person's progress. Using aperson-centred approach, you will provide enabling support ensuring the highest level of physical, personal andemotional care. We support young people who have Epilepsy, need personal care and need gastrostomy feeding.Aberlour, in conjunction with NHS, provide all staff with training.

If you have an interest in working with young people, we would like to hear from you. We are looking for a YoungPeople’s Worker to work Wakened Night Shifts on a part time basis (averaging 19 hours per week). These hourswill be worked as part of a two week rolling rota whereby you will work one shift one week and two shifts thefollowing. For 6 weeks of the year you will work 2 shifts per week as standard. Shifts are 11 or 12 hourseach.

Ideally, candidates will have social care experience, an understanding of autism, complex needs and disability. Youwill hold, or be willing to work towards, a relevant professional qualification at SCQF level 7 or above (forexample: SVQ 3 in Care plus an HNC) together with relevant experience of working with children or young people.You must also be able to demonstrate awareness of the key elements of working with people affected by disabilityas well as an understanding of, and commitment to, young people’s rights.

Our exciting programme enables children with complexdisabilities to have new experiences and make new friends. The Hub also provides holistic family support througha menu of services that support and complement direct support offered to children and young people. Working withthe children is not a ‘quick fix’ but a long-term endeavour supporting them to make small incremental changethat over time becomes significant. The role is challenging but also immensely rewarding. But if you are starting out in your social childcarecareer, you will also be a welcome addition to the team and in return for your commitment and hard work we willsupport your development in the role. You will be enthusiastic, motivated and a caring individual who willcontribute to the development of care and support plans, working in a child centred outcomes focused manner toensure that children, young people and their families get the most out of their service. You will work closelywith internal and external colleagues in a multi-agency approach to ensure that the holistic needs of children,young people and families are central to service provision. We are particularly looking for workers who havehealth care experience, knowledge and skills to support children and young people with complex health needswithin their own homes.

We are looking for candidates who are passionate about supporting young people, families and communities, who areflexible and share our vision that collaborative working and relationship based early intervention is the bestoption for young people and families who are feeling overwhelmed or excluded.

Full time staff participate in a three-week rolling rota. This includes evening, weekends and sleepovers working 5days out of 7 days per week.

The post holder will work directly with children and young people with experience of care, in an individualrelationship-based advocacy role, and within participation and group activity across Renfrewshire. This uniquerole requires you to listen to what children and young people with experience of care say and support them toensure their rights are upheld and their voices are heard in the processes of making decisions about theirlives. You will also help facilitate a broad range of participatory and engagement opportunities and create theconditions for collective advocacy.

The right candidate for this post will be brilliant at forming positive relationships with children and young people.You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, adaptable to a widerange of contexts. You will enjoy working collaboratively with partners. You will be committed to children’srights, inclusive working, equal opportunities, and believe that all young people can make transformative changehappen in their lives if given the opportunity.

The successful candidate will be joining Who Cares? Scotland and working within the South West locality team at anexciting time, when the voices of those who are in or have experienced care are growing in power, individuallyand collectively - bringing with them insight, challenge, hope and change. Flexibility will be required giventhe remit of the role. Some evening and weekend work will be necessary, as will a full driving licence andaccess to transport.
