Job Overview We are looking to appoint an inspirational Teacher of Economics to join our small, but thriving and high achieving Economics Department. The department comprises two staff who teach A Level Economics and IGCSE Economics. We also support the Business Studies Department in their delivery of the Cambridge Technical Level 3 Business qualification. As a department, we seek to develop in our students a strong foundation in economic thinking, analytical reasoning, and a critical understanding of how economies function at both national and global levels. Our teaching is characterised by dynamic and engaging methods, a focus on individual learners and their needs, and a commitment to making real-world economic issues accessible and relevant. We aim to foster curiosity, confidence, and an appreciation for how Economics can shape societies and improve decision-making, equipping our students with the tools to thrive both academically and beyond. At Key Stage 4, we offer the CIE IGCSE Economics course, which is taught exclusively to our international students who are on a one year IGCSE programme. Our approach is tailored to ensure accessibility while maintaining the academic rigour of the course. We focus on building core economic vocabulary, developing confidence in extended writing, and supporting students in applying economic concepts to real-world scenarios. At GCSE, we consistently achieve above 80% Level 4 grades. At Sixth Form, students follow the OCR A Level Economics specification. The course is taught over 6 periods a week, typically shared between two teachers. This course explores key microeconomic and macroeconomic themes, including market mechanisms, government intervention, global economic development, and international trade. We encourage students to engage with current affairs, think critically, and apply economic theories to contemporary issues. Lessons are discussion-rich, with an emphasis on analytical thinking and data interpretation. There are normally two classes in Year 12 and two classes in Year 13. At A Level, the department has consistently achieved above 70% A* to B grades and 100% A* to E.
