Few SLT jobs offer such a wide variety of caseloads that include speech, language, communication, and dysphagia, along with the opportunity to pursue further qualifications in dysphagia and other areas. You will be supported with in-service training opportunities within speech and language therapy, cross-disciplinary learning, preceptorship, and supervision of students, junior staff, and apprentices.
A Speech & Language Therapist is needed to improve physical health outcomes across our inpatient mental health units, ensuring a holistic approach to patient recovery.
The units consist of separate high secure wards for older adults, men, and women, with varying levels of acuity.
As this clinical area may be new to you, we reassure you that full support, training, supervision, and joint working are offered by your peers and supervisor, providing the opportunity to treat patients independently in a clinical setting.
* You will be responsible for a specific area, receiving daily updates on patients’ wellbeing and participation.
* You will liaise with team colleagues and peers to assess your caseload and plan your day.
* You will undertake assessments, treatments, or reviews of your caseload.
* You will analyze and develop treatment plans based on your knowledge of available treatments.
* You will plan and lead clinical groups on the ward.
* You will advise colleagues on eating safety.
* You will coordinate with catering staff to ensure food is of correct consistency, culturally suitable, and varied.
* You will keep your peers and supervisor informed of risks or issues as they arise and seek help when needed.
* You will support your peers as required.
* You will ensure notes are written within legal requirements using the electronic patient record system, RIO.
