Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Pharmacy Technician to work as a Dispensary Manager for the Dispensary Services to join our friendly and welcoming Pharmacy Team at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust .
co-ordinate the staff to ensure all different types of prescriptions are dispensed timely for patients.
The post holder will have oversight over the dispensary stock management of the controlled drugs for the Pharmacy Department including the maintenance of the automated cabinet.
There will be an involvement with the patient experience group and working with the Pharmacy Quality Team, the Error Monitoring Team and networking with other hospital pharmacies around the local area, for best practice and benchmarking.
This post will have involvement with projects for quality improvements and implementing actions for compliance to the GPHC standards where appropriate.
As a member of the Pharmacy team, you will be expected to play a vital role in providing pharmacy technical advice and support.
Main duties of the job
1. Responsible for the management of all aspects of the medicines management services linked to dispensary services including the day-to-day stock control management of the Controlled Drugs for Pharmacy department.
2. Ensure the correct technical staff are deployed to the points of dispensing and checking according to demand.
3. Investigate stock level discrepancies in the dispensary in line with current procedures.
4. Work with the ward based teams to supply in patient medicines timely.
5. Co-ordinate and manage pharmacy clinical systems in pharmacy including our automation systems to support the supply of medicines and the dispensing process.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. To manage the day-to-day workflow in the dispensary ensuring the effective and efficient running of the dispensary, providing dispensed medicines to all patients and outside hospital units in a safe orderly manner of working.
2. To ensure the day-to-day operations of stock control for the Pharmacy Controlled drugs is carried out and discrepancies investigated immediately including timely escalations to the Team Leaders when unresolved. This includes maintenance of the automated CD cabinet and electronic registers.
3. To also ensure the correct technical staff are deployed to respond to changes in work demand. Ensure work is clinically assessed, dispensed, checked, and given to the patient or ward within acceptable time limits.
4. Ensure the service provided is effective, efficient and maintains the highest professional standards by operationally managing the pharmacy staff, e.g. Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacy Assistants, Student Pharmacy Technicians, Apprentices, Pre-registration Pharmacy Students and Rotational Pharmacists.
5. Contribute to the strategic planning and organising of the service including the annual business plan and staff development programmes.
6. Engage and work with all Lead Pharmacists in speciality areas to support the provision of medicines to patients from the dispensary.
7. Ensure contingency plans are in place when staffing restrictions do not align to service needs or in situations of emergencies.
8. Ensure that all operational procedures and standards for the dispensary are in place, reviewed regularly and updated and adhered to by all staff.
9. To identify, assess and manage the risks associated with the supply of medicines in accordance with legislation and best practice.
10. To support service improvement and development of pharmacy technicians and pharmacy assistants and pharmacy students ensuring that the systems they manage and deliver, are safe, effective and efficient within procedures.
11. Manages the induction training and assessment of all technical staff in the dispensary.
12. Work meticulously paying attention to detail and at times work under pressure.

Essential criteria
6. BTEC and NVQ Level 3 in Pharmaceutical Science or equivalent qualification
7. Registration with General Pharmaceutical Council as a practising Pharmacy Technician
8. Accredited Checking Technician
9. Leadership / Management / Supervision or equivalent qualification
Experience

10. Significant experience as a Pharmacy Technician in hospital pharmacy environment
