Overview

University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to appoint a Consultant Gynaecologist in Endometriosis (9.5 PAs).

The Endometriosis Centre is a BGSE-accredited tertiary service with a commitment to excellence in multidisciplinary clinical care, surgical innovation, and high-quality training.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented individual who wishes to join our well-established and dedicated multidisciplinary team.

The successful applicant will join our close-knit team, founded on mutual respect and the delivery of excellence in clinical care. Exceptional interpersonal skills and team working are essential. Clinical care is delivered within a well-established clinical governance framework and our unit has a commitment to data collection, clinical audit, and clinical research.

Main duties of the job

As a tertiary referral unit, we provide care for patients with complex endometriosis. The successful applicant will work within a long-established multidisciplinary team, including colleagues in urology and colorectal surgery.

The post will comprise 9.5 sessions each week, including outpatient clinics, multidisciplinary meetings, surgical operating lists, and inpatient ward rounds. The post holder will also participate in the gynaecology consultant on-call rota and should possess the required clinical skills to respond to gynaecological emergencies.

Person Specification


Professional Qualifications

* oEligible for full registration with the GMC at time of appointment and hold a current licence to practise.
* oMRCOG or appropriate specialist registration
* oRelevant CCT or equivalent ('equivalence' must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
* oEntry onto the GMC Specialist Register (O&G) or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC


Clinical Experience

* oClinical training and experience in general obstetrics and gynaecology equivalent to that required of a UK CCT.


Clinical Skills

* oExcellent skills in endometriosis surgery, both laparoscopic and minimal access
* oCompetency in emergency gynaecology procedures including ectopic and miscarriage
* oCompetence in robotic surgery


Clinical Knowledge

* oExcellent knowledge of the diagnosis and management of gynaecological malignancies


Audit, Quality Improvement, Management & IT

* oLeadership skills to take forward service developments
* oGood organisational and management skills
* oAbility to act within the clinical governance framework of the NHS Computing and IT skills
* oEvidence of management and administration experience.


Research. Teaching skills & experience

* oExcellent teaching and training ability.
* oExperience of supervising junior medical staff.
* oStrong research record in the field of gynaecology endometriosis.


Personal Qualities

* oGood leadership and negotiation skills
* oAbility to evaluate information, make decisions and communicate effectively and with clarity in written and spoken English
* oAbility to build rapport, listen and empathise with patients
* oAbility to work within teams, to work under pressure and to appropriately exert authority.
