* Must have Level 3 Diploma in Residential Child Care or equivalent
* Must have valid right to work
Additional roles available: Waking Nights, Deputy Manager, Senior Residential Practitioner, Registered Manager
The Residential Practitioner’s role is to support, encourage, and safeguard children and young people in their development, enabling them to make positive contributions to their families, society, and local communities.
This involves fostering positive relationships, maintaining strong bonds, and supporting children through shared routines, activities, and boundaries.
Responsibilities
1. Undertake key worker role, implement care plans, conduct risk assessments, and devise support and health plans.
2. Provide a safe, stimulating, and secure environment supporting physical and emotional needs.
3. Collaborate with professionals and communities of origin to maintain links and understand past issues.
4. Nurture children’s ambitions and support their learning both in and out of school.
5. Support emotional, mental, and physical health needs to build self-esteem.
6. Respect privacy while ensuring safety and cleanliness of living spaces.
7. Provide personal care for children with disabilities and complex needs as appropriate.
8. Maintain accurate, GDPR-compliant records.
9. Manage challenging behaviour assertively, restoratively, and sensitively.
10. Work to prevent criminalisation of children, encouraging restorative approaches.
11. Work hours are rota-based, including sleep-ins, mornings, evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
12. Collaborate with colleagues, external agencies, and families.
13. Participate in training, appraisal, and continuous development.
14. Adhere to policies on child protection, health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection.
15. Promote equality, challenge discrimination, and support diversity.
16. Work within the council’s flexibility protocol.
17. Perform other duties as appropriate within the scope of the role.
