About the Role
Based at either our Salisbury Wiltshire office or at our Bristol office in the heart of the city, you will join our rapidly growing, friendly and multi‑disciplined team, working on a range of diverse and interesting projects, leading the way in this exciting field. The Callen‑Lenz team are passionate about what we do, and we are searching for individuals to grow with us as we expand into the aerospace industry. As a Senior Flight Control Engineer you will work with the wider team to develop Callen‑Lenz flight control and simulation software. You will be leading software project teams to design and document software while consistently communicating with stakeholders and other departments to ensure software meets requirements.
Responsibilities
* Model‑based design of flight control software using Simulink or similar.
* Leading the design and maintenance of autopilot simulation software.
* Coordination and contribution to flight performance studies.
* Development of flight dynamics models for company products.
* Oversight and coaching of team members in the use of related software development tools.
* Collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders to define software requirements.
* Review of software source code and model designs.
* Collaboration with other engineering disciplines.
* Leading test and test recording to ensure correct operation of software and that requirements are met.
* Lead the software team within individual projects to deliver activities to agreed cost and schedule.
* Support the Project Manager in scoping, defining and estimating project tasks.

* Participate in any required health and safety training.
Requirements
* Must be a British Citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK.
* Ability to commit to occasional national and international travel.
* Excellent communicator.
* Excellent problem‑solving ability.
* Ability to work well in a team.
* Enthusiasm for their work and self‑motivated.
* Ability to hold Security Clearance – 5 years residence in the UK.
* BSc or MSc degree in an engineering related subject.
* Essential experience in designing and documenting control systems.
* Deep understanding of aeronautics and control theory.
* Considerable experience of designing and documenting software.
* Experience using MATLAB & Simulink.
* Knowledge of a variety of programming languages and tools.
* Desirable: Understanding of real‑time and embedded software.
* Knowledge of safety related engineering practices.
* Leadership and mentoring of software engineers.
* Previous experience or interest in UAVs.
Salary
£60,000 - £70,000
