Associate Consultant Transmission and Distribution

Your new role
The main function of this position is to lead and oversee electrical design activities as directed by the Head of T&D, and to develop the Group's capabilities in HV/EHV Engineering. You will take a senior role in project work, focusing on production, client liaison, mentoring, and coaching junior team members. The role involves meetings with clients, contractors, and other designers, so good communication skills and relevant experience are essential. Site visits and visits to non-UK design offices will also be required. You will be responsible for Work Package Design Management, including all reporting to meet the company's design management standards.
You will play a key role in expanding our UK T&D sector, leveraging our global delivery and growth model. As part of the UK T&D team, you will be integrated into our global Power Systems team of over 300 engineers, specializing in substation design, cable engineering, and overhead line design. You will collaborate with seasoned professionals, lead design projects, and support the growth of our UK design team. Your key responsibilities will include
* Leading one of the key electrical disciplines based on your background: 1) Primary, 2) Secondary Design, 3) OH, or 4) Cable design of HV and EHV Substations, in compliance with relevant standards.
* Coordinating design of substations and/or overhead/cable design from concept to detailed design according to client requirements.
* Managing multidisciplinary design activities.
* Liaising with other design team members and client engineers.
* Managing technical aspects of junior engineers and CAD professionals.
* Calculating loading and short-circuit values for primary equipment.
* Approving primary engineering designs for your projects and supporting team members, attending technical meetings to ensure client satisfaction.
* Developing and training junior engineers.
About you
* HNC/HND/Degree in Electrical Engineering with experience in UK Electricity Transmission and Distribution. NG authorization is preferred.
* Membership of IET, Chartered Status, or working towards Chartered Engineer.
* Experience working with major UK utilities like NG or DNOs, with a good understanding of industry standards and policies.
* Strong electrical knowledge in equipment design, specification, layout, and detailed engineering of HV and EHV substations.
* Understanding of electrical plant, transformers, protection, relays, and control principles, aligned with ENA, BS, and IEC standards.
* Experience in multidisciplinary design management.
* Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary, multi-location team environment.
