OPERATIONS DIRECTOR - HVAC Service & Hard FM
Reports to: Managing Director
Job Purpose
A key strategic role responsible for overseeing operations-including project delivery, maintenance, supply chain, and workforce management-while driving business performance and supporting growth. This role requires a commercially focused leader with a track record in improving margins, optimising resources, and delivering service excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Commercial Leadership
* Develop and implement operational strategy aligned with business growth.
* Improve efficiency, manage costs, and maximise profitability.
* Analyse financial performance and support data-driven decisions.
* Identify growth opportunities and lead contract negotiations.
* Support operational elements of M&A activity.
Operational Management
* Oversee service, installation, and maintenance delivery to ensure quality, timeliness, and budget control.
* Refine processes to boost productivity and client satisfaction.
* Implement and monitor KPIs across operational teams.
* Ensure regulatory and health & safety compliance.
Team Leadership
* Lead and develop a high-performing operations team.
* Foster a culture of accountability, ownership, and continuous improvement.
* Promote staff development and succession planning.
Essential Requirements
* Senior leadership experience in operations within FM, HVAC, or related sectors.
* Strong commercial acumen and P&L management experience.
* Hands-on, strategic leadership style.
* Experience with multi-site operations and subcontractor networks.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Solid understanding of H&S and regulatory compliance.
Desirable
* Experience with mergers/acquisitions and group-level governance.
* Background in M&E, air conditioning, or building services.
* Technical or engineering qualifications.
* Experience in high-growth SME environments.
