Salary £35,235-£36,124 pro rata

Hours: 15 per week

Contract: Permanent

About this opportunity

We are seeking an Archivist to join our team at the Cumbria Archive and Local Studies Centre, Whitehaven, to carry out the full range of professional duties to support the work of Cumbria Archive Service. In particular you will catalogue and appraise collections, answer enquiries, manage the searchroom, assist with the preservation of collections and contribute to the management of born digital archives. There is also an opportunity to support the delivery of a wide range of outreach activities, including talks, displays, working with schools and promotion of the Archive Service to a wider audience.

The successful candidate must have a post graduate qualification in archive administration, recognised by the Archives and Records Association. Experience of using archive collection management systems is essential and experience with digital preservation software is highly desirable.

Cumbria Archive and Local Studies Centre, Whitehaven, looks after the written heritage of Cumbria including the historic county of Cumberland. The collections from the 12th Century to the present day, including the papers of the Curwen Family of Workington hall, a significant collection of records relating to Whitehavens maritime past and industrial heritage of West Cumbria.

This is a permanent, part-time, post and may include some evening and weekend working.
