Job Summary
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Vehicle Technician to join our busy workshop. With a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience, you will be a key member of the team, responsible for complex diagnostics, high-quality servicing, and carrying out all necessary repairs to a wide range of vehicles. This role requires exceptional technical ability, strong problem-solving skills, and the capacity to work independently and mentor junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
* Advanced Diagnostics and Fault Finding: Utilise advanced diagnostic equipment (e.g., OBD-II scanners, oscilloscopes, multimeters) and in-depth technical knowledge to accurately identify complex mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults, often involving electronic control systems.
* Repairs and Maintenance: Perform routine servicing, statutory maintenance (MOT preparation/testing, if certified), and a wide range of repairs, from minor components to major overhauls of engines, transmissions, braking systems, and suspension.
* Quality and Compliance: Ensure all work is completed to the highest standard, meeting both manufacturer specifications and internal quality control checks. Adhere strictly to all UK health, safety, and environmental regulations.
* Documentation: Accurately complete all necessary paperwork, including job cards, service sheets, and warranty documentation, detailing work performed and parts used.
* Customer Communication: Explain complex technical issues and recommended repairs clearly and courteously to service advisors and, when necessary, directly to customers.
* Mentoring and Training: Provide technical guidance and support to junior technicians and apprentices, helping them develop their diagnostic and repair skills.
* Workshop Efficiency: Manage your time and workload effectively to ensure service deadlines are met and contribute to the overall efficiency and productivity of the workshop.
Required Qualifications and Experience
* Experience: A minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience as a qualified Vehicle Technician in a professional garage environment.
* Formal Qualification: Achieved a Level 3 Qualification (or equivalent) in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, such as:
* NVQ/SVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
* City & Guilds Level 3 Diploma in Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Principles.
* IMI Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Accreditation.
* Licence: A current and valid Full UK Driving Licence.
* MOT (Highly Desirable): Current, valid MOT Tester Certification (Classes 4 & 7) is a significant advantage.
* Specialist Knowledge (Desirable): Qualifications or proven experience with new vehicle technologies (e.g., EV/Hybrid Systems) will be highly regarded.
