Project Manager / Engineer
EKSPAN are structural engineering specialists, operating in the mechanics of movement control for large loads on bridges and in most structural applications. We offer full product and site support – from design, manufacture, supply and installation, to inspection, site maintenance and replacement work. Our expertise enables us to provide structural solutions by way of consultancy support or the delivery of a complete project management service.
The opportunity has arisen for a Project Manager / Engineer to join our Projects Department. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the successful execution, delivery and installation of project deliverables – on time, within budget and to the highest quality standards.
Organisational structure and reporting
Key responsibilities include:
* Taking ownership of projects from handover, ensuring contractual obligations are met and managed.
* Leading on risk analysis, producing and maintaining risk registers, and implementing mitigation measures.
* Managing site activities, resources and documentation to support delivery.
* Ensuring qualified and competent teams are in place for site operations, including subcontractor oversight.
* Liaising regularly with stakeholders – internal (engineering, design, manufacturing, HSE) and external (clients, suppliers).
* Leading project progress meetings, reporting against KPIs, milestones and financial controls.
* Identifying and resolving technical issues with support from engineering departments.
* Completing projects to client satisfaction and securing final handover sign-off.
* Conducting lessons learned reviews and feeding improvements back into future projects.
* Building strong client relationships to support repeat business and EKSPAN’s reputation.
Qualifications & skills (essentials)
* Engineering or technical project management background.
* Strong commercial awareness with ability to manage budgets, schedules and contracts.
* Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and subcontractors.
* Excellent communication and organisational skills.
* Confident in managing risk and problem-solving in a pressured environment.
* Flexible and willing to travel to sites as required.
Qualifications & skills (desirable)
* Knowledge of structural, mechanical or civil engineering projects.
* Experience with large-scale installation projects or construction works.
* Familiarity with CDM regulations and health & safety requirements.
Key internal relationships
* DIRECTORS: Leadership/Day to day contact/Weekly meeting/board meetings/Monthly management meetings/financial & business cycle/project & design updates & liaison
* SENIOR LEAD TEAM: Leadership/day to day contact, monthly meetings/financial & business cycle/project & design updates & liaison
* ADMIN: Reviewing timesheet spreadsheet
* FINANCE/COMMERCIAL: Liaising with ongoing EWN’s & CE’s. Reviewing CVRs
Key external relationships
* CLIENTS: Communicating on project targets & objectives, business development, project feedback, market analysis.
* SUPPLIERS: Operational suppliers
