About the Role
As a CNC Turning Machinist in the Manufacturing Specialists Team (MST), you will play a key role in precision manufacturing and technical development for UKAEA's projects. MST, part of the Engineering Installation Group (EIG) within IED, operates advanced CNC machining facilities to produce high-quality components for innovative applications.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operate CNC Lathes: Manage CNC Lathes such as DMG CLX-350 (Siemens control) and Mazak Quickturn 350.
2. Technical Review & Process Improvement: Review engineering drawings and processes to improve productivity and ensure timely delivery.
3. Maintain Safety & Quality: Follow safety and quality standards, calibrate equipment, and report discrepancies.
4. Customer Liaison: Advise customers on processes to meet product specifications.
5. Production: Manufacture small batch, high-standard components within strict deadlines.
6. Continuous Learning: Develop new skills and stay updated with technological advances.
7. Promote Safety Culture: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a proactive safety environment.
8. Mechanical Solutions: Use CNC expertise to develop mechanical solutions for equipment.
Qualifications & Experience
* Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
* Experience in high-tech engineering environments.
* Knowledge of safe systems of work, risk assessments.
* Familiarity with materials, manufacturing techniques; nuclear industry experience is a plus.
* Proficiency in multi-axis CNC lathe programming, setting, and operation.
* Experience with Siemens, Fanuc, and Mazak controllers.
* Ability to interpret engineering drawings and instructions.
* Understanding of relevant regulations and legislation.
* Awareness of other engineering disciplines.
