Job summary
To act as the appointed competent person for fire safety for the Trust. The post holder will be responsible for undertaking a program of suitable and sufficient fire risk assessments, providing competent Trust-wide fire safety advice, developing and delivering fire safety drills, and ensuring compliance with Fire Safety legislation.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide professional input to all fire prevention and precaution issues affecting the management of Trust fire safety. Maintain specialist knowledge on current trends and relevant legislation.
2. Interpret and apply the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) and other guidance to ensure statutory compliance.
3. Create and review organisational fire safety policies and procedures, ensuring they are up to date. Be involved in the Trust Risk Management system, including incident reporting, hazard identification, and risk assessment.

Job responsibilities
* Provide expert input on fire prevention and safety issues, keeping up-to-date with legislation and trends.
* Ensure compliance with fire safety legislation and standards.
* Review and develop fire safety policies and procedures.
* Assist in the development and implementation of the Trust Fire Safety Policy/Strategy.
* Conduct fire risk assessments, including within clinical and secure environments, and ensure findings are acted upon.
* Coordinate fire safety improvements and communicate effectively with senior management and staff.
* Participate in fire emergency planning and ensure fire strategy drawings are current.
* Support operational managers in fire drills and remedial actions.
* Advise on building design for fire safety, including during construction and renovation.
* Investigate fire incidents, produce reports, and track trends.
* Maintain relationships with professional bodies and suppliers for technical updates.
* Engage actively in Trust-wide meetings related to fire safety.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Essential: Level 4 fire risk assessment qualification or equivalent
* Desirable: Membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers or similar
Experience
* Essential: Experience applying Fire Safety legislation, especially HTM-05, and assessing fire risks.
* Desirable: Fire risk assessments in healthcare environments.
Skills
* Essential: Knowledge of fire safety legislation (HTM-05), fire detection, emergency lighting, and procedures. Strong communication skills. Ability to analyze large data sets quickly.
* Desirable: Experience working in NHS or public sector environments.
