Overview
Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the Cheshire and South Mersey elective hub for elective recovery. Our Clatterbridge Hospital site has commissioned 4 operating theatres, a 35‑bed phased recovery unit and associated inpatient beds. The site currently hosts 6 operating theatres and a minor procedure room within the Perioperative Medicine Directorate, which supports services including pre‑operative assessment, SEAL, acute & chronic pain services, operating theatres, 3‑phase recovery, a day ward, the Department of Anaesthesia, sterile services, and a surgical inpatient ward (M2).
Role
The surgical first assistant will provide skilled surgical assistance throughout the perioperative journey of our patients. Working as part of the perioperative multidisciplinary team under the direction of senior medical teams and perioperative leaders, the assistant will deliver optimal surgical assistance across orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, gynaecology, breast and plastic surgery. The role also includes scrub duties as required and cross‑site expectation between APH and CGH.
Qualifications
We welcome applications from existing perioperative practitioners (Nurse and ODP) who are looking to develop into surgical first assistants. Trainee surgical first assistants will be considered if trainee criteria and experience are met.
