Cancer Pathway Navigator Urology

Be the guiding force behind a patient's cancer journey. As a Cancer Pathway Navigator at Worcester Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring patients move smoothly, safely and swiftly from suspicion of cancer through to diagnosis and onward care.

Acting as a single point of contact during the early stages of the pathway, you will coordinate tests, appointments and admissions, proactively identifying and resolving delays to help deliver the 28-day Faster Diagnosis Standard. Working closely with clinicians, MDT coordinators and operational teams, you will ensure every step is aligned, timely and patient-focused.

Compassion and communication are at the heart of this role. You will support patients and families with empathy and clarity, keeping them informed, reducing anxiety and ensuring they feel heard and supported throughout.

Highly organised and proactive, you will manage complex information across multiple IT systems, maintain accurate documentation and escalate concerns where needed. You will also contribute to pathway improvement and service development across the Trust.

JobPurpose:

The Cancer Pathway Navigator willform an integralpartof the multidisciplinaryteam approach in essential management of the pathwaysupporting Cancer Services and the Urology team. You will work in close unison with the Urologyteam to ensure the co-ordination and management of patients at all points of their Cancer referral pathway. You willensure no patient has unnessesary delays in their pathway & escalate anyforeseen delays to the directorate management team.

Key Duties:

The post holderwill work independently within the remit of the role but under the guidance andsupervision of the Directorate Management team.

To work using own initiative with minimal supervision,prioritising own workload in line with objectives of the department andconsultant teams.

To support the Directorate Management Team with theadministration, tracking and validation of patients pathways to achieve the nationalcancer targets. This will involve booking appointments, typing clinic letters& organising surgical treatments.

To liaise with patients, relatives and staff to ensure the nextstep of their journey is acted on swiftly whilst demonstrating sensitivity andmaintaining professionalism at all times.

To deal with any complaints, problems or issues in a sensitiveway, escalating to clinicians/management as appropriate.

Ensure confidentiality is maintained at all times, complying withthe Data Protection Act, Information Governance and other Trust/DepartmentalPolicies.

To undertake any other duties as may be required/appropriate bythe Directorate Management Team.

Responsibility for Patient/Clientcare, treatment and Therapy

Monitor and checkappointments and diagnostictests are booked and undertaken in an appropriate and timely manner.This may involve booking appointments/theatre lists.

Ensure patients receive timelyandappropriate information in regard to theirdiagnosis and treatment.

Ensurepatients are not delayed to achieving national cancer targets

Support the delivery of appropriate information to patients in consultation withthemulti-disciplinary team and according to any agreed information pathways,including printing of information


Person Specification


Experience

* Experience and skills in using patient administration systems (ie, Oasis, Bluespier) with an in-depth working knowledge of the applications
* Experience and skills in using the standard range of Microsoft Office programmes, particularly Word and Excel
* Willingness to undertake further education and training applicable to the role
* Administrative experience, supporting clinical teams and senior managers
* Previous clerical or secretarial experience within the NHS particularly developing and maintaining office systems
* Experience of working with complex and sensitive issues on a day-to-day basis, including contact with patients and relatives
* Experience of working with cancer services
* Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team
* Experience of working within an NHS Acute Hospital setting
* Experience of communicating with patients and relatives who are being treated on cancer pathways
* Experience communicating with patients via telephone


Qualifications

* GCSE A to C or equivalent in English and Maths
* RSA II typing or equivalent level of skills
