Job Description

The successful candidate will be a key member of the team delivering 'Shinty's Story – Sgeul na Camanachd' and will be responsible to the Project Manager, CEO and the Board of Directors.

The purpose of the post:

The purpose of the Exhibition Officer post is to manage and ensure the smooth establishment and running of the 'Shinty's Story – Sgeul na Camanachd' exhibition. The Exhibition Officer will be responsible for coordinating the setup, maintenance, and daily operations of the exhibition, ensuring an engaging and informative visitor experience. This role involves working closely with the Project Manager, external partners, and the local community to deliver a dynamic exhibition that celebrates the heritage of shinty, fostering a deeper appreciation for the sport and its cultural significance. Knowledge of the shinty community/the sport community, and of Gaelic is an advantage.

Key responsibilities include:

Oversee the installation and ongoing maintenance of exhibition displays and interactive elements.

·
Ensure all exhibition components are in working order and meet safety standards.

·
Manage the day-to-day operations of the exhibition, including opening, closing, selling merchandise and visitor services.

·
Address and resolve any operational issues promptly to ensure a seamless visitor experience.

·
Develop and implement visitor engagement strategies to enhance the educational impact of the exhibition.

·
Conduct occasional tours and educational sessions for diverse audiences.

·
Recruit, train, and manage volunteers and/or part-time staff to assist with exhibition operations.

·
Schedule and supervise volunteer shifts, ensuring adequate coverage at all times.

·
Work closely with community groups, schools, and other stakeholders to promote the exhibition.

·
Develop partnerships to support outreach and engagement initiatives.

·
Collect and analyse visitor feedback to continually improve the exhibition experience.

·
Prepare regular reports on exhibition performance and visitor metrics for the Project Manager and Board.

·
Maintain our Collection Management System, with details of artefacts in the exhibition.

General responsibilities include:

· Ensure compliance with organisational policies, procedures, and relevant regulations.

· Promote and adhere to health and safety standards within the exhibition environment.

· Working at major cup finals in collaboration with the full staff team.

· Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment, promoting open communication and knowledge sharing.

· Represent the exhibition and organisation at meetings, conferences, and events as required.

· Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing exhibition needs and priorities.

· Be willing to take on additional responsibilities and tasks as required to support the success of the exhibition.

· Assist with the creation and management of acquisition and curation documents.

Candidate Specification

Qualifications and experience

· Proven experience in managing exhibitions or cultural projects.

· Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

· Experience in volunteer or staff management.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

* Gaelic language skills.
* Knowledge of the heritage and cultural significance of shinty or Scottish sports history.
* Experience in delivering educational programmes within a cultural or heritage context.
* Familiarity with interactive and digital exhibition components.
* Degree in tourism, museum studies, heritage management, history or related field.

· Strong ability to manage the daily operations of an exhibition.

· Proficiency in maintaining and troubleshooting exhibition components.

Visitor Engagement:

· Ability to engage and educate diverse audiences.

Team Coordination:

· Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and support a team.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

· Ability to prepare detailed reports and present findings to stakeholders.

· Experience in developing visitor engagement strategies and conducting tours.

· Experience in recruiting, training, and managing volunteers and staff.

· Valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
