The successful candidate must ensure the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care to all residents per RQIA standards, NISCC Codes of Practice, Minimum Standards for Care Homes (DHSSPS NI), and the home's internal policies and procedures. The Care Assistant Supervisor must also act as a role model for all care staff and will be responsible for ensuring effective care delivery, team performance, and compliance with safeguarding, health and safety, and regulatory requirements. The Patient Charter of Rights and adhere to the Nursing Home Minimum Standards. The successful candidate will be required to work a minimum of 33 hours per week. About the role Key Responsibilities: Supervise, guide, and support a team of Senior Care Assistants and Care Assistants on shift, ensuring professional standards are maintained. Delegate duties appropriately and ensure effective team coordination during daily routines and emergencies. Carry out supervisions, appraisals, return-to-work interviews, and performance reviews as directed by the Manager. Mentor and support new staff during induction, ensuring familiarity with resident needs, care plans, and policies. Lead by example in delivering safe, dignified, person-centred care tailored to each resident's physical, emotional, and social needs. Assist with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, mobility, nutrition, hydration, continence, and social interaction. Prompt and assist with medication administration if trained and authorised. Observe, monitor, and promptly report any changes in residents' health, behaviour, or circumstances to the Nurse or Manager. Ensure that all care is delivered per RQIA standards, NISCC regulations, and Data Protection (GDPR) principles. Participate in internal audits, risk assessments, and inspections. Promote best practices in infection prevention and control (IPC), manual handling, and safeguarding (including adult protection procedures). Ensure records and documentation (e.g. daily logs, fluid charts, incident reports) are maintained accurately and promptly. Ensure effective communication and handovers between shifts and teams. Liaise with families, healthcare professionals (e.g. GPs, district nurses), and other stakeholders professionally and confidentially. Attend mandatory training sessions and refresher courses (e.g. safeguarding, fire safety, moving & handling). Promote a learning culture, encouraging continuous improvement and reflective practice. What you will need Required criteria Minimum 3 years' experience in a care setting, preferably in a residential or nursing home. Knowledge of dementia care, palliative care, or mental health support. Medication training and experience in supporting administration. Registered with NISCC as a Senior Care Assistant / Supervisor. Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Demonstrable knowledge of RQIA regulations, Minimum Care Standards, and safeguarding. Willingness to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and bank holidays. Desired criteria Level 3 Health and Social Care qualification (or equivalent) or willingness to work towards achieving this within an agreed timeframe, with support provided.
