Purpose of the role
Colas Ltd. have a great opportunity for a SHE Manager to join the team, based at our Portsmouth depot, PO6 1TA. However there will be an expectation for you to travel to sites in Ringmer, Peacehaven and Grantham every other week. As a member of the SHE team, you will provide leadership in a support and advisory service to the management and employees of Colas Ltd on SHE matters in accordance with the dictates of legislation, company, and group policy to improve overall SHE performance.
Main Responsibilities
As a SHE Manager your responsibility will be to provide leadership in Safety, Health, Wellbeing, and Environment (SHE) to allow the business to operate in accordance with the dictates of legislation, company, and group policy. It is essential you are happy with travelling to various locations and sites to provide support and advice to all parts of the A&MS and Products workstream. Your role will involve carrying out site inspections and F2F conversations, advise, assist, and where appropriate deliver SHE training, such as masterclasses, PSL etc and to provide emergency response advice, to the business. You will monitor/correct EcoOnline event entry, action tracker, investigations, Management rituals, etc. - identifying trends/learnings to influence management in driving improvements and carry out internal SHE audits against relevant ISO standards, Sector Schemes and other standards applicable to Colas’ activities, as per annual plan, or focus areas defined by Associate Director SHE. You will work with the AD SHE in the production & revision of Integrated management system documents such as SHE policies, procedures and guidance and attend and input into regular meetings and liaison with managers, partner organisations, client, and customers. To carry out other appropriate duties as assigned by the Associate Director – SHE
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a extensive management experience in Health and Safety and a working knowledge in Safety, Health and Environment management, including audit functions, ideally within the highways, construction or production industry sector. You will be qualified to NVQ Level 6 or equivalent as a minimum. It is essential you have the following qualifications / memberships before applying for this role: Technical or Chartered member of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) and/ or Practitioner Membership of Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (PIEMA) and have obtained a NEBOSH diploma standard or higher. You will have technical Knowledge of Civil Engineering/Building/Mechanical Engineering to HNC level or equivalent.
The successful candidate will have a clear understanding of management systems including ISO 14001,45001, 50001 and National Highway Sector schemes. You will be a dynamic and forward-thinking individual with strong commercial acumen who has previous experience of managing high performing teams. It is essential that you have good communication with different types of operational stakeholders. You will have good leadership and management practical experience developed from within this business and or the industry sector. A valid UK driving licence is essential for this role
