Are you a design engineer with experience in refrigeration or mechanical systems?

Do you want to work on forward-thinking projects that contribute to a lower-carbon future? Whether you're already in the refrigeration industry or keen to break into it, this is a rare opportunity to join a company at the cutting edge of sustainable cooling and heating.

About isentra

At isentra ), we design and manufacture next-generation industrial refrigeration and heat pump systems using natural refrigerants such as CO₂. Our systems are used by some of the UK's leading food producers and logistics operators — helping them reduce emissions, increase energy efficiency, and future-proof their operations.

We specialise in transcritical CO₂ systems — a fast-growing area of the refrigeration and heat pump industry — and we're proud to be at the forefront of sustainable, high-performance plant design.

At isentra, you'll find a supportive, forward-thinking environment where your contribution matters and your career can grow.

The Opportunity

We're looking for a capable and enthusiastic Design Engineer to join our growing engineering team. You will be responsible for producing high-quality 2D and 3D design work for our CO₂ refrigeration and heat pump systems, supporting the full project lifecycle from concept to manufacturing.

This role would suit someone with a background in refrigeration or thermal systems, but we also welcome applications from mechanical design engineers in related fields who are keen to develop in this sector.

Key Responsibilities

* Create detailed 2D and 3D CAD models and drawings using Autodesk software (AutoCAD and Inventor)
* Develop mechanical layouts, piping schematics, general assemblies, and fabrication drawings
* Prepare and manage technical documentation including BOMs, datasheets, and revision control
* Support senior engineers with system design, component selection, and concept development
* Ensure designs comply with industry standards and internal quality procedures
* Work closely with internal teams to ensure accurate and efficient project delivery
* Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement in design, quality, and performance

What We're Looking For

* Proficiency in Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor (2D and 3D design essential)
* A good understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing methods
* Engineering qualification (HND, Degree) or equivalent industry experience
* Experience in refrigeration, HVAC, or thermal systems would be a strong advantage
* (but not essential if you bring strong transferable skills and a desire to learn)
* Strong attention to detail and an organised, methodical approach

* Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a collaborative team

* A proactive mindset and a willingness to take on new technical challenges
* A genuine interest in energy efficiency, sustainability, or thermal engineering

What You Can Expect from isentra

* A dynamic and growing company at the forefront of sustainable engineering
* A supportive and collaborative team environment
* Exposure to real-world projects in refrigeration and heat pump technology
* Ongoing training and development with a clear progression pathway
* Opportunity to specialise in either mechanical systems integration or control systems
* Competitive salary and company pension scheme
* Generous holiday allowance
* A role where your work has real, long-term impact

We are an equal opportunities employer and value diversity at our company. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, colour, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.
