Senior Project Manager – CMS2 Critical Maritime Systems & Support
Join the CMS2 In Service Support team as a Senior Project Manager. You will lead ISS project delivery, coach ISS engineers and project managers, support the ISS Technical Manager, and manage the UK MOD support contract.

Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coach a small team of ISS Project Managers and ISS Engineers, holding revenue responsibility and accountable to the ISS Director.
* Accountable for all in‑service project activities and related customer support reporting status of projects, orders and customer satisfaction.
* Write and review all project proposals within ISS, ensuring scope, financial, commercial assumptions, exclusions and dependencies align with CMS2 company standards.
* Provide line management of the ISS Project Managers and ISS Engineers within the ISS team.
* Support the ISS Technical Manager in Engineering requirements and tasks as needed.
* Manage matrix delivery resources – Engineering, Production, Supply Chain requirements.
* Manage the UK MOD Support contract (approx. 50% FTE).
* Front to customers on project delivery schedules as required, supporting the ISS PMs.
* Work with the ISS Director and ISS Technical Manager to develop and implement effective in‑service support strategies and plans in line with the overall business strategy and contracts.
* Lead effective customer meetings, identifying issue resolutions and improvements.
* Manage customer escalations for issues and concerns and strive to continually improve.
* Provide feedback to new design contracts with respect to Serviceability.
* Ensure robust contractual and project baselines and effective control management to manage change effectively and deliver an appropriate level of business management reporting.
* Drive the ISS PM / Pe to be proactive and work closely with Operations and production teams to ensure planning and delivery to customer requirements.
* Promote best practice, support and develop the team to maximize efficiency and effective delivery.
* Develop and manage Key Performance Indicators (KPI's), contract metrics, risk and opportunities, optimisation and budget control.
* Customer management and reporting of availability and maintenance contracts.
* Manage customer change requests arising from in‑service requests through the customer and internal change management process.
* Identify risks to the contracts and work on the appropriate strategies for risk management.
* Monitor customer feedback and equipment performance to identify improvements.
* Work with a broad stakeholder group across global prime contractors and users in the Defence Industry to provide effective stakeholder management.
General Activities
* Carry out any other ad‑hoc duties as required to support the needs of the business.
* Carry out internal Business critical activities (i.e. Ops II Management / MRP / CRM).
* Provide a professional backup service for colleagues during peak times or during absence.
* Maintain continuous professional development to ensure knowledge is up to date.
* Act as an ambassador for the company in all interactions with customers and the public.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise – Essential
* Excellent communication skills and ability to negotiate and influence others, building and maintaining effective relationships with multiple stakeholders both internal and external.
* Demonstrable professional knowledge of working in a complex regulated engineering environment.
* Educated to Degree Level, ideally in Engineering / Manufacturing.
* Proven track record of managing contracts/projects to Time Cost Quality.
* Strong presentation skills, confident speaker and professionally presented.
* Attention to detail, forward planning and budgeting / financial knowledge.
* Working knowledge of risk and opportunity management and lessons learned processes.
* Commercial and business management awareness.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise – Desirable
* Experience of working within the Defence Industry.
* Experience of managing a small team.
* Marine / Shipbuilding / Ship Repair / OEM background highly advantageous.
* Understanding of Matrix Management.
* Previous experience of an ERP/MRP system.
* Knowledge of ISO9001 or a similar QMS.
* Knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation (IOSH).
* Experience within a lean manufacturing environment.
* Role travel requirements: The duties relate to the UK but you may be required to travel when required by the Company. It is not envisaged that you shall be required to work outside the UK for more than one month.
Other Requirements
Candidates must have an existing right to live and work in the UK.
Candidates must have passed UK security clearance to Security Check level or be able to obtain this level. This normally requires 5 years residence in the UK.
