Position: Design Engineer
Location: UK-based | International Engineering Collaboration
Van Hool Industrial Vehicles is creating a new position within our UK operation to strengthen the link between our UK customers and our South Africa–based engineering and production teams.
This hybrid role combines technical estimating, design coordination and customer liaison, ensuring customer requirements are accurately translated into compliant, cost-effective engineering solutions and delivered successfully through to production.
Job description:
* Act as the technical interface between UK customers and the engineering team in South Africa
* Interpret customer enquiries and technical requirements and translate them into clear engineering and
* production specifications
* Prepare accurate quotations and submit them to the Key Account Manager
* Support costing and margin analysis upon job completion
* Maintain and update Bills of Material (BOMs) for standard and customised quotes
* Communicate specification changes clearly to Engineering and Production, highlighting cost and schedule
* impacts
* Provide basic engineering deliverables including conceptual designs, calculations, drawings and technical
* reports
* Support product design, R&D activities, fabrication drawings, jigging and tooling design
* Assist with design calculations in line with international standards and regulations
* Support troubleshooting of design or manufacturing issues during production
* Liaise with logistics where required to ensure correct job allocation and documentation
Requirements:
* Mechanical Engineering qualification (BEng / BSc Eng / MEng / MSc Eng) preferred
* Experience in estimating, costing and/or mechanical design
* Experience with road tanks or commercials vehicles is a strong advantage
* Proficiency in spreadsheet-based costing and calculations
* 3D CAD experience (SolidWorks or Creo preferred; AutoCAD advantageous)
* Exposure to FEA tools (Abaqus advantageous)
* Ability to read, interpret and apply applicable legal acts, standards and regulations
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* High attention to detail and strong administrative capability
* Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple deadlines
* Team player, quick learner and proactive problem-solver
* Computer literate with a valid driver’s licence
