Part-Time Payroll Officer – Initial Temporary ongoing.
Based: Middlesbrough
Hours 20–30 (flexibility around busy periods)
Salary: Equivalent of £30,000 FTE (pro rata)
Hays are working with a well-established organisation who are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Payroll Officer to join our team on a temporary, part-time basis. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with payroll experience who values flexibility in their working hours.
Key Responsibilities
1. Process end-to-end monthly payroll within set deadlines
2. Set up new starters, process leavers, and update employee records
3. Ensure payroll ispleted accurately and on time
4. Handle wage queries including hours, holiday entitlement, mileage, and expense claims
5. Reconcile adjustments after payroll cut-off in the following month’s payroll
6. Produce and issue payslips via Sage
7. Manage pension auto enrolment and statutory payments (SSP, SMP, etc.)
8. Submit RTI, CIS returns, P11Ds, and year-end reports
9. Respond to HMRC queries and client questions
10. Upload pension contributions to NHS and People’s Pension providers
11. Identify discrepancies, investigate issues, and resolve promptly
12. Liaise with internal staff and external clients as required
13. Maintain payroll records and filing systems
14. Produce reports, spreadsheets, and support general administrative duties
About You
15. Previous payroll experience (ideally with Sage)
16. Strong attention to detail and accuracy
17. Excellent organisational andmunication skills
18. Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
19. Knowledge of statutory payments and pension processes
