GCHQ is an intelligence, cyber and security agency that protects the UK from terrorism, cyber‑attacks and espionage.
Role
As a Senior Data Scientist you will leverage data science to advance the mission and inform policy and strategy decisions. You will collaborate with data scientists and mission teams to utilise our services for problem‑solving and discovering new applications, research and implement both established and novel models, and adapt AI techniques into our micro‑service architecture.
You will support the Development Operations (DevOps) team, exploring innovative Machine Learning Operations (ML‑Ops) tools, and learn to host large language models across multiple GPUs. After a year you may have opportunities to manage data scientists and engineers.
All work is revenue‑neutral and mission‑critical; your contributions will make a positive impact on national security.
Annual overseas travel may be available for collaboration, conferences and training.
About You
Preferably you have a STEM or computer science degree or equivalent qualification. If you do not hold a degree but possess relevant experience, you are encouraged to apply.
You should have a deep understanding of machine learning – including training, deployment and maintenance – and be proficient in exploratory data analysis, statistical reasoning and data‑driven decision making.
Your experience in data science or software engineering enables you to communicate effectively with experts in both fields. You have a history of mentoring and supporting colleagues and are capable of leading teams and working with internal and external partners.
You are comfortable with the full lifecycle of machine learning projects and can transform a prototype into a functional system component. You are proficient in Python, Kubernetes, Docker, JavaScript, and Java.
Training and Development
From day one you will receive a comprehensive introduction, a dedicated buddy and tailored development support. You will also have access to an internal Data Science learning pathway with a significant taught component covering exploratory analysis, visualisation, mathematics, statistics, machine learning, algorithms, graph theory and big data technologies.
