Technical Director – Geochemistry (WSP)
WSP is seeking an experienced consultant to lead geochemical water‑rock interaction studies for the prediction, prevention, and management of metal leaching and acid rock drainage in mining projects. The role combines technical leadership, project direction, business development, and client relationship management, based in the UK or Ireland.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide technical expertise to an international team of geochemists and multidisciplinary collaborators on permitting, baseline studies, engineering studies, operational support, and closure projects.
* Strategise and collaborate with the Mining Team and the wider business to achieve business objectives.
* Manage projects, including drafting proposals, cost estimates, client liaison, financial management, invoices, project closure, and client feedback with support from the project management team.
* Lead, mentor, and support career development, technical expertise, and commercial awareness for scientists, engineers, and other professionals in the Mine Water team.
* Participate in global corporate technical practice groups to elevate technical excellence, innovation, and visibility.
* Engage in business development activities such as proposal and bid preparation, marketing activities, and participation in tradeshows and conferences.
* Develop and maintain client relationships to actively seek and win new work, supporting the team’s business development efforts.
* Travel for business both in the UK/Ireland and overseas, as required.

Qualifications & Experience
* Established reputation and history of winning repeat business.
* Demonstrated experience of technical leadership, collaboration, and delivery.
* Substantial and broad experience in mine water geochemistry.
* Commitment to internal and external client service.
* Proven track record managing and contributing to large, multidisciplinary projects.
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
* Advanced degree (MSc or Ph.D.) or equivalent in geochemistry, hydrogeochemistry, applied or environmental geology/chemistry.
* Passion for innovation, self‑education, and ability to solve complex challenges.
* Knowledge of national and international geochemical best practice guidelines and regulations.
* Effective team collaboration skills.
* Professional registration or working towards it and commitment to Continuous Professional Development.
* Strong writing skills including technical reports and proposals; English proficiency required; second language (French or Spanish) valued.
