We are looking to appoint a H&S Manager for our client, a long-established and rapidly expanding manufacturing organisation renowned for its commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and employee wellbeing. Due to sustained growth and an expanding order book, the business is seeking to appoint a Health and Safety Manager to lead all aspects of Health and Safety, across a complex, high-volume manufacturing site. The Health and Safety Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and continually improving the organisation's health and safety policies, systems, and culture. You will ensure that all operations comply with statutory requirements and industry best practices, driving proactive safety initiatives that support a safe, efficient, and sustainable working environment. You'll work closely with senior management, production teams, and external partners to embed H&S excellence throughout the site, ensuring risk is effectively managed and that continuous improvement remains central to the company's operations. Key Responsibilities Lead the company's HSE strategy, ensuring alignment with corporate objectives and manufacturing standards. Promote a strong safety culture through engagement, education, and effective communication across all levels of the organisation. Provide expert advice to the senior leadership team on all health, safety, and environmental matters. Maintain and manage compliance with relevant legislation, ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other accreditation standards. Conduct internal and external audits, ensuring that corrective actions are tracked and completed effectively. Oversee the preparation and submission of statutory documentation, accident reports, and environmental returns. Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and method statements (RAMS) across manufacturing and maintenance operations. Carry out regular site inspections, safety tours, and incident investigations to ensure compliance and identify opportunities for improvement. Manage incident reporting, root cause analysis, and the implementation of preventative and corrective measures. Develop and deliver engaging training programmes for employees, contractors, and managers on safe working practices, emergency procedures, and environmental awareness. Coach and mentor supervisors and team leaders to take ownership of safety performance within their areas. Drive HSE improvement projects focused on reducing workplace risk, waste, and environmental impact. Implement data-driven KPIs and reporting to monitor trends and track performance improvement. Qualifications NEBOSH General Certificate (Diploma or equivalent desirable). Proven track record in manufacturing, engineering, or heavy industry health and safety management. Strong working knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation. Demonstrable experience with ISO standards and external auditing processes. Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels. Proactive, pragmatic, and able to balance compliance with operational delivery. Confident in leading change, fostering a culture of accountability, and empowering others to take ownership of safety.
