Location: Various SEN Schools Across Plymouth
Contract Type: Full-Time / Part-Time (Flexible)
Salary: £90-£95
Start Date: September 2025
About the Role
We are seeking a committed and adaptable SEN Teaching Assistant to work across a network of Special Educational Needs (SEN) schools in Plymouth. This unique and rewarding role requires a dedicated individual who not only supports pupils in their learning and personal development but is also confident driving across the city and transporting children safely to and from school or activities.
Key Responsibilities
Provide tailored support to pupils with a range of special educational needs, including ASD, ADHD, learning difficulties, and physical disabilities.
Build positive relationships and promote the emotional and social development of children.
Assist teachers in delivering learning activities and adapting materials to meet individual needs.
Support children during transitions between schools, home, and other educational settings.
Drive children to and from school or between sites and appointments within Plymouth — business insurance is essential for this role.
Maintain safeguarding and ensure children are always transported and supported safely and professionally.
Keep accurate records of pupil progress and transport activities.
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN in a school or care setting.
A full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle with business insurance.
Confidence and competence in driving in and around the Plymouth area.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
A caring, patient, and resilient nature.
Good literacy and numeracy skills (GCSE English and Maths or equivalent).
Willingness to undertake relevant training (e.g., safeguarding, Team Teach, moving and handling).
Relevant qualifications such as a Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant or SEN qualification.
Experience in working with non-verbal children or those with complex needs.
First Aid and/or MIDAS (Minibus Driver Awareness Scheme) training.
