What’s the role?

In a nutshell, you’ll be helping shape the future operating model of the highway service – setting the procurement strategy for high value contracts and ensuring they support the service, Council and region meet shared objectives! You’ll be overseeing, developing and delivering contracts to help Kirklees deliver against our climate targets, improve services for customers and generally smarten our approach to service delivery through the use of new and emerging technology, ways of working, and targeted performance management.

Kirklees Council is leading the way by transforming services in the public sector, and we are looking for talented people to join us. This is your opportunity to help shape the future of Kirklees, to drive delivery of improvements and to be part of our journey towards delivering the best possible services for Kirklees residents.

The role will oversee and deliver improvements to contracts with a cumulative value in the hundreds of millions. Whilst experience in highways is not essential, we would be particularly interested to hear from applicants with a highways background or experience of overseeing a diverse range of high value contracts in a construction or operational field.

We’d like to hear from you if you:

1. Have contract management experience, and can identify and robustly prioritise and manage risks, and progress opportunities
2. Are able to think strategically and develop reports to articulate your ideas
3. Can present ideas to diverse audiences - tailoring your approach to individuals and situations to get the best outcome.
4. Have a passion for improving things!
5. Have excellent communication and influencing skills which allow you to positively challenge stakeholder thinking, focusing on the benefits and risks of the new approaches delivered by these changes.
6. Have a strong customer focus and commitment to making a difference for our citizens and staff
7. Have strong performance management skills and are able to manage and cultivate supplier relationships
8. Can effectively manage the resources and finances relevant to an assigned area
9. Have a track record of delivering contract performance improvements and change
