Job Description
New Directions is currently recruiting for a number of Learning Support Assistants to work with our Primary schools in the Pontypool area. We are looking for someone reliable, passionate, and dedicated to providing continuity for these wonderful children.
You will need a minimum of 3 months child-based experience, you will need to be motivated, and can help children achieve their full potential, creating a positive environment for them to thrive. You may be working with children with challenging behaviour so you will need to be resilient, consistent and understanding of their needs.
You’ll work directly under the supervision of the teacher, and also be expected to help in preparing the classroom for lessons. This may involve a variety of activities such as photocopying worksheets, setting up art equipment, weighing out ingredients, preparing computers, rearranging the furniture for a particular activity and so on. The right candidate should be able to provide a creative and exciting learning environment whereby pupils are motivated and encouraged to show ambition, to maximise their potential, and to embrace all aspects of school life in order to develop a wide-ranging skill set.
Job Requirements include:
1. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers.
2. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes for students and help monitor their progress.
3. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities.
4. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records.
5. Hold caring and nurturing qualities to help support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
