Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud FinOps Architect to drive financial operations maturity across cloud environments. This role will focus on assessing, benchmarking, and improving the organisation’s (and/or clients’) FinOps capabilities, ensuring alignment between engineering, finance, and business stakeholders.
You will lead FinOps maturity assessments, identify optimisation opportunities, and design scalable governance frameworks that enable efficient cloud cost management, transparency, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities
FinOps Maturity Assessments
1. Conduct comprehensive FinOps maturity assessments across cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)
2. Evaluate current capabilities across: Cost visibility & allocation Budgeting & forecasting Governance & policies Usage optimisation Financial accountability & reporting
3. Benchmark current state against FinOps Foundation frameworks and best practices
4. Produce detailed maturity reports, scorecards, and executive summaries
5. Identify gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities
Strategy & Advisory
6. Define and deliver FinOps maturity roadmaps
7. Provide recommendations for improving: Cloud financial governance Operating models (centralised, federated, hybrid) Cost optimisation strategies
8. Advise senior stakeholders on cloud spend optimisation and ROI maximisation
9. Align FinOps practices with broader business and financial objectives
Design & Implementation
10. Design FinOps operating models and governance frameworks
11. Establish best practices for: Tagging and cost allocation Chargeback/showback models Budget controls and alerts
12. Enable tooling and automation for cost monitoring and reporting
13. Support implementation of FinOps tools (, Azure Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, third-party tools)
Stakeholder Engagement
14. Collaborate with Finance, Engineering, Product, and Procurement teams
15. Translate technical cloud usage into financial insights
16. Facilitate workshops to improve FinOps awareness and adoption
17. Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership
Continuous Improvement & Enablement
18. Drive ongoing FinOps capability development
19. Establish KPIs and metrics to track maturity improvements
20. Promote a culture of cost accountability and optimisation
21. Deliver training and knowledge-sharing sessions
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Expertise
22. Strong Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, and/or GCP)
23. Deep understanding of cloud cost structures, billing models, and pricing
24. Experience with cost management tools and reporting platforms
FinOps & Financial Knowledge
25. Proven Experience in FinOps, IT finance, or cloud economics
26. Understanding of financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting
27. Knowledge of FinOps Foundation frameworks and maturity models
Assessment & Consulting Skills
28. Experience conducting maturity assessments or capability reviews
29. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
30. Ability to translate complex data into actionable insights
Stakeholder & Communication Skills
31. Excellent communication and storytelling skills
32. Experience working with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams
33. Ability to influence and drive organisational change
Preferred Qualifications
34. FinOps Certified Practitioner / Professional
35. Cloud certifications (AWS, Azure, GCP)
36. Experience in consulting or advisory roles
37. Knowledge of data analytics tools (Power BI, Tableau, etc.)
