We are seeking an experienced Critical Shift Manager to join a high-profile, critical data centre site based in SL2. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong and people-focused engineering professional to take ownership of shift operations within a complex, mission-critical facilities environment.
About the Role
As Critical Shift Manager, you will lead and coordinate the daily activities of the shift engineering team, ensuring all planned and reactive maintenance is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with site policies, statutory requirements, and critical environment standards. You will act as the focal point for all engineering activity on shift, providing technical leadership, incident management, and operational control across critical building systems.
Responsibilities
Ensure routine maintenance is carried out across all critical plant, equipment, and building systems in line with agreed service levels
Respond to Building Management System (BMS) alarms and carry out emergency repairs as required
Operate as an Authorised Person, ensuring compliance with safe systems of work and completion of required safety documentation
Manage and control Permit to Work systems and vendor activities on site
Ensure switching schedules, SOPs and EOPs are produced, reviewed, and adhered to
Maintain cooling and domestic water systems in compliance with L8 standards
Prepare and review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS)
Supervise subcontractors and ensure compliance with contractual and site requirements
Maintain and review statutory and subcontractor logbooks
Monitor CMMS records, ensuring vendor reports and corrective actions are logged correctly
Lead incident management during unplanned faults or critical events
Manage shift rota, holidays, sickness, and return-to-work processes
Conduct drills, toolbox talks, and scenario training to maintain site readiness
Support training, mentoring, and performance development of shift engineers
Maintain appropriate stock levels of critical spares and consumables
Qualifications
Level 3 NVQ (or equivalent) in a Electrical Engineering
18th Edition
HV Authorisation (HVAP)
4+ Years minimum working within critical environments
Emergency First Aid at Work
Required Skills
Experience managing real-time incidents in a critical or business-critical environment
Strong understanding of health & safety compliance in maintenance operations
Knowledge of interlinked systems (Fire, PMS, BMS)
Preferred Skills
PASMA & IPAF (preferred)
SAP (Active Preferred)
Manual Handling training (advantageous)
