A BMS Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and delivering Building Management System projects (also called Building Automation Systems) on time, within scope, and within budget. This role involves coordinating technical teams, managing stakeholders, and ensuring systems meet operational and energy-efficiency goals.
Key Responsibilities
Project Planning & Delivery
1. Lead end-to-end BMS project lifecycle (design, installation, commissioning, handover)
2. Define project scope, timelines, and resource requirements
3. Develop project plans and track progress against milestones
4. Ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget
Technical Oversight
5. Oversee design and implementation of BMS systems (HVAC, lighting, energy monitoring, etc.)
6. Review technical specifications, drawings, and control strategies
7. Ensure compliance with industry standards and client requirements
Stakeholder Management
8. Act as the main point of contact for clients, consultants, and contractors
9. Conduct project meetings and provide regular status updates
10. Manage expectations and resolve issues effectively
Team Coordination
11. Coordinate engineers, subcontractors, and vendors
12. Assign tasks and monitor team performance
13. Ensure proper communication across all parties
Budget & Risk Management
14. Prepare and manage project budgets and cost forecasts
15. Identify risks and implement mitigation strategies
16. Handle variations, change orders, and contract management
Quality & Compliance
17. Ensure systems meet quality standards and regulatory requirements
18. Oversee testing, commissioning, and system validation
19. Ensure proper documentation and handover to the client
Requirements
Education
20. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Building Services) or related field
Experience
21. 2–10+ years in BMS/BAS project delivery or related field
22. Proven experience managing complex technical projects
Technical Skills
23. Knowledge of BMS platforms (, Distech, Honeywell, Schneider, Trend)
24. Understanding of HVAC systems, controls, and integration protocols (BACnet, Modbus, etc.)
25. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
