Overview
The Tesco Data Science team are looking for a Senior Simulation Data Scientist to use simulation to help solve challenging problems across the business and our supply chain from supplier to shelf. At Tesco, our Data Science team focuses on modelling complex business problems and deploying data products at scale. Our work spans across multiple areas including physical stores, online, supply chain, marketing and Clubcard. This requires our Data Scientists to have an advanced understanding of statistics and algorithms. The team itself is made up of researchers and practitioners with varied backgrounds from both academia and the business world.
The position will be based in our Welwyn Garden City campus.
Responsibilities
* Work at every stage of the project lifecycle and be responsible for defining, developing, and validating simulation models
* Translate business problems into simulation solutions by working closely with business stakeholders
* Develop reusable, manageable, and deployable simulation components so the business can solve more problems quickly and efficiently
* Validate, document and present the simulation modelling process and outcomes, and communicate complex solutions clearly to non‑experts
* Promote data science across Tesco and the external Data Science community
* Drive innovation and take ownership of aspects of the project development
* Help Lead Scientists and Product Managers manage relationships with business stakeholders
* Mentor and supervise junior members of the team and/or interns
Qualifications
* Ambitious simulation scientist with a strong scientific and simulation background
* Experience designing, implementing, and analysing simulations in different simulation paradigms (DES, ABM)
* Ideally experience in one or more of the following fields:
o Supply Chain or Logistics Simulation
o Agent Based Modelling
o Co‑Simulation and FMI
o Distributed Simulation
o Simulation of Complex Systems
o Calibration of simulation models from big data sets
* Strong numerical higher degree and solid understanding of mathematics and statistical principles
* Strong programming skills (Python or Java preferred)
* Familiarity with software engineering best practices, including version control, OOP, unit testing, and CI/CD
* Familiarity with cloud technologies
