A supportive and inclusive primary school in North London is seeking a resilient and empathetic SEMH Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional, and mental health needs. This role is ideal for someone who is calm under pressure, passionate about behaviour support, and motivated to help pupils re-engage with learning in a nurturing environment.
The Role
As an SEMH TA, you will work closely with the SENCo and pastoral team to support pupils across KS1 or KS2 who require emotional guidance and structured behaviour support. Your responsibilities will include:
1. Providing 1:1 and small‑group SEMH interventions
2. Supporting emotional regulation and de‑escalation techniques
3. Building trusting, therapeutic relationships with pupils
4. Monitoring behaviour and contributing to support plans
5. Encouraging positive routines, resilience and readiness to learn
6. Working collaboratively with teachers, parents, and pastoral staff
Ideal Candidate
7. Experience working with SEMH, trauma, or behavioural needs
8. Calm, patient, and emotionally attuned
9. Confident using restorative or trauma‑informed approaches
10. Strong behaviour management and relationship‑building skills
11. Passionate about helping vulnerable pupils feel safe and supported
