Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen in the BSW community perinatal team following change of jobs of current post holder. The BSW Specialist Community Perinatal Mental Health service provides specialist support to those who - become mentally unwell with a serious mental illness during that time, as a consequence of pregnancy and delivery, or who - are at high risk of relapsing from an existing serious and enduring mental illness, as a result of pregnancy and childbirth - are already under the care of AWP when they become pregnant (including joint care for the perinatal period) The team is made up of a service manager, senior partitioners, specialist partitioners (including RMNs, Social worker, OT, Midwife, health Visitor) nursery nurses, clinical psychologists, mental health support workers, psychiatrists (Consultant Psychiatrist, speciality doctor, ST starting Feb,2027 and core trainee) and a pharmacist. The service covers a large geographical area including BaNES, Swindon, North and South Wiltshire. As such, the team has been generally home based with online working and patient contact. The team have established bases in each locality. There is MDT/complex meeting. There is team support through 5 MDT online events during the week. MDT discussion of cases including on Mondays and Fridays' afternoons. There is reflective group practice once a month along with Mindfulness practice sessions on Wednesdays. As a result, we regret to inform you that we are unable to consider applications from individuals who require GMC sponsorship Main duties of the job As the postholder, duties include; Diagnostic/ Formulation reviews• Medication reviews. The service is commissioned for advice but not prescribing, so medication queries should be directed to patients GP • Pre-conception advice of patients not on the caseload, usually referred by GP or CMHT, for advice about current medication or psychiatric conditions and perinatal risks. There are teaching, clinical and management leadership opportunities - To join PGME at Devizes, where ST will be expected to do perinatal case presentation and discussion as per the rota - To support medical students who join for perinatal experience - To undertake MHA in the community or DGH as necessary -To participate every 2 monthly AWP Trust wide perinatal inductions -To undertake teachings at GP centres across BSW - Lead MDT during Tuesday complex case meetings and MDTs - Liaise with Obstetrics/midwives to organise 32 weeks' care plan for complex cases - Liaison and joint working with Bristol and out of area Mother baby units - Assessment and management of complex cases such as Post partum psychosis, co-morbidities EUPD, drug & Alcohol and other disorders - Opportunity to join therapeutic groups being run and also have opportunity to undertake short therapy cases. You will be included in the next Southwest Region Perinatal Induction Training which is given online over 6 mornings, covering all aspects of perinatal care and delivered for all new starters in perinatal teams across the South West area. Detailed job description and main responsibilities Please refer to the accompanying job description for full details on the roles and responsibilities of this post Person specification Qualifications Essential criteria Basic Medical Qualification (MBBS or equivalent) Desirable criteria Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. Section 12 Approval Eligibilty Essential criteria Fully registered with the GMC with a licence to practice, or eligible for full registration with the GMC at the time of confirmaiton of appointment Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in a specialty training programme in Psychiatry or as a fixed term specialty trainee in Psychiatry; or shall have equivalent experience and competencies. Desirable criteria Experience of assessing and treating patients in custodial/prison/Forensic settings. Skills Essential criteria Ability to manage own time and workload and prioritise clinical work Ability to appraise own performance Excellent written and oral communication skills Desirable criteria Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills Knowledge Essential criteria Awareness of current issues in prison mental health service provision, policy and legislation Up to date knowledge of issues in Mental Health Service for this specialty Teaching Skills Essential criteria Commitment to teaching other members of the multi-disciplinary team Desirable criteria PGCME or equivalent/aspiration to attain a postgraduate teaching qualification Research and Audit Essential criteria Ability to critically appraise published research. Experience of carrying out an audit project Desirable criteria Experience in involvement in a research project and publication.
