Job Overview
An exciting opportunity for a highly motivated midwife to join the inpatient team as a Band 7 Postnatal Ward Lead at Wexham Park Hospital for 14.5 hours per week. This role involves leading all aspects of postnatal care with a focus on NIPE, infant care, ATTAIN and the infant feeding initiative, and offers unique opportunities for personal, professional, and service development while collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team.
Main Duties
* Responsible for implementation and evaluation of care within designated ward areas.
* Make decisions within current protocols and principles of care in compliance with the NMC Midwives Rules and the Code of Practice and unit guidelines.
* Support the inpatient matron to ensure women receive high standards of care responsive to their needs and the service needs.
* Provide senior clinical leadership and act as shift coordinator on the postnatal ward.
* Lead and support midwives to deliver safe, effective, and compassionate postnatal care.
* Coordinate day‑to‑day ward activity, supporting patient flow and timely decision‑making.
* Act as the senior midwife on duty, escalating concerns and managing risk appropriately.
* Support staff wellbeing, supervision and adherence to Trust policies and standards.
* Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to promote high‑quality care and positive patient experience.

Qualifications – Essential Criteria:
* Registered Midwife
* Evidence of CPD
* Mentorship / SLiP course
Qualifications – Desirable Criteria:
* Leadership/Management Training
* NIPE trained
* Undertaking master study
* Safeguarding Level 2 & 3
Experience – Essential Criteria:
* Experience of managing a ward area
* Experience of clinical audit/quality issues within the health care setting
* Evidence of successful collaboration with multi‑disciplinary teams at a senior level
Experience – Desirable Criteria:
* Experience in guideline development and implementation
* Experience of implementing and influencing clinical governance processes.
* Experience of undertaking midwifery research and audit.
Skills & Knowledge – Essential Criteria:
* Demonstrates strong clinical leadership and influencing skills.
* Demonstrates excellent written and presentation skills.
* Effective internet and IT skills.
* Confident in teaching and assessing students.
