Specialist Physiotherapist
We have an exciting opportunity for a band 6 Respiratory Physiotherapist to work in the UK's first Specialist Emergency Care Hospital at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, rated outstanding twice by the CQC.
This post offers rotations into the Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital covering Respiratory Medicine, Cardiology and Coronary Care, Accident and Emergency, Surgery and Critical Care. The service also covers Respiratory outpatient services across North Tyneside and Northumberland including consultant-led bronchiectasis and asthma clinics, ILD and breathing pattern disorder clinics, and pulmonary and cardiac rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job
Lead by a clinical specialist, the Respiratory Physiotherapy team has a strong service development ethos to continually improve the quality of patient care and work towards national guidelines and quality standards.
There are strong links with the multidisciplinary team and a robust appraisal system is in place to ensure continuous professional development. There is opportunity to be involved in local and national audits, research trials, and service development projects.
The successful applicant must demonstrate excellent communication skills with both the multidisciplinary team and peers. Evidence of continued professional development and postgraduate training is required.
Applicants will be on-call as part of a rota. They must meet the travel requirements of the post to cover the geographical area of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. For clinic work, it is an essential requirement to have a valid UK driving licence and to be a car owner able to use the car for work purposes, to drive a lease car, or to have a Trust personal lease vehicle.
Job responsibilities
* To assess, diagnose and treat an independent clinical case load.
* To work as part of the physiotherapy team under the guidance and support of more experienced highly specialist senior physiotherapy staff.
* To provide a high standard of physiotherapy care throughout the respiratory speciality, incorporating inpatient, outpatient, and community activity.
* To role model compassionate and inclusive leadership to shape a collective leadership culture within the trust.
Person Specification
Qualifications / Professional Registration
* BSc (Hons) degree in Physiotherapy or equivalent experience and/or qualification.
* Registered Physiotherapist with the Health and Care Professions Council.
* Evidence of continued professional development through self‑directed learning, in‑service training records, and attendance at relevant short postgraduate courses.
* Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy.
* Student training qualification provided by University.
Experience and knowledge
* Candidates should have completed their postgraduate core rotations.
* Evidence of developing neuro‑muscular handling skills.
* Knowledge of or experience in coaching and mentoring practices and tools.
* Knowledge of or experience in quality improvement tools, techniques, and methods.
Other requirements
* It is an essential requirement that the post holder has a valid driving licence and is either a car owner able to use the car for work purposes, or has a Trust personal lease vehicle which may be used for the role. Reasonable adjustments may be considered to enable a disabled person to undertake the role.
