Overview
We require a full-time 10PA Consultant in Paediatric Surgery with a special interest in Paediatric Oncology Surgery. The successful applicant will work alongside the current consultant team to provide outpatient and inpatient services at Alder Hey. They will also be expected to provide services at one or more partner hospitals. They will join the sub-specialty Paediatric Oncology team. Oncology experience is of particular importance and recent sub-specialty exposure in this area is desirable. The candidate must have or be within 6 months if expecting to be awarded, CCT or equivalent in Paediatric Neonatal Surgery.

The post is a locum for 12 months in the first instance, with a start date on or around 1st April 2026. The post will involve participating in both the acute general surgery on-call and sub-specialty oesophageal atresia/trachea-oesophageal fistula on-call.
Main duties
The Department of Paediatric Surgery provides primary and secondary services for general paediatric surgery and urology, and tertiary level services for neonatal surgery, specialist paediatric surgery and urology. It is a department with full integration of NHS and University staff. Specialist interests include Upper GI, Oncology, Thoracic, Colorectal surgery and Urology. We are a Children's Major Trauma Centre. Other specialist services include Cardiac Surgery, a large PICU and an ECMO service. Emergency neonatal surgical cover is delivered at both Alder Hey and Liverpool Women's Hospital as part of the Liverpool Neonatal Partnership. A new level 3 neonatal unit for infants requiring surgical care is expected to be open at Alder Hey from April 2026.
Details of on-call arrangements: Emergency daytime consultant cover Monday to Friday is by a designated Surgeon of the Week; the sub-specialty OA/TOF rota is 1 in 4 with PA allocation and on-call availability supplement. An additional 2nd On consultant provides 24-hour on-call emergency cover including split weekends with a rest day following. Regular lines list participation is expected.

Requirements
Professional registration and qualifications
* Full registration with the GMC (or eligible for full registration) and Licensed to Practice.
* FRCS Paediatric Surgery or equivalent.
* Completion of higher surgical training in Paediatric Surgery or equivalent.
* Experience of working within a paediatric surgery tertiary center with experience of specialist paediatrics.
* Experience of oncology surgery within the last 2 years.
Desirable
* Evidence of examples of completed audit cycle.
