Teaching Assistant at Gloucester's Largest Comprehensive School
A large school with over 200 staff and approximately 1,800 students is seeking a Teaching Assistant to work within the Special Educational Needs (SEN) department. The role involves supporting the effective operation of the SEND provision on a day-to-day basis.
You will be fully immersed in subject departments, working closely with subject leaders and teachers both in classrooms and during departmental meetings to ensure students with SEND make excellent progress. Your duties include supporting students through 1:1 intervention, small group work, and main classroom support.
This position is for 30.5 hours per week, during 39 weeks per year (term time plus one week).
Responsibilities:
1. Establish a safe and stimulating environment for students, rooted in mutual respect.
2. Demonstrate positive attitudes, values, and behavior expected of students.
3. Maintain clear rules and routines for behavior, promoting good and courteous conduct throughout the school.
4. Register students attending interventions within the first 10 minutes, ensuring punctuality, adherence to the school uniform policy, and proper equipment.
5. Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues, knowing when to seek advice and support.
6. Support teaching and learning by adopting strategies that enhance achievement, including for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities.
7. Promote inclusion by encouraging participation in learning and extracurricular activities.
8. Assist in assessment, monitoring, recording, and reporting pupil progress as appropriate.
Candidate Requirements:
1. Excellent literacy and numeracy skills (minimum of grade 5 at GCSE or equivalent) in English and Maths.
2. Ability to relate well to children and adults.
3. Ability to work constructively as part of a team.
4. Personal commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and rights of young people.
5. Strong interpersonal skills for working with students and forming professional relationships.
