Responsibilities and Duties
* Exercise of general professional duties and particular duties as a teacher, including planning, teaching, assessment, reporting, and involvement in school administration and pastoral arrangements.
* Promote the general progress and well-being of pupils; provide advice and guidance on educational matters and future careers; maintain records and communicate with parents and external bodies.
* Participate in staff development, curriculum development, and coordination of curriculum with the school and community.
* Contribute to the selection, induction, and professional development of other teachers where required.
Qualifications and Experience (Essential)
* Hold a teaching qualification eligible for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland.
* Hold a degree in a sports-related qualification (minimum 2:2) or equivalent level 6 qualification or teaching qualification suitable to teach Physical Education as the main subject.
* Minimum of 1 year’s demonstrable experience of teaching Key Stage 3 Physical Education in a post-primary school.
* Demonstrable experience using effective approaches to achieve high outcomes for diverse learners.
* Experience coaching a range of sports in an extra-curricular setting (including netball and football).
* Minimum of 1 year’s experience teaching BTEC Level 1/2 Award in Sport and/or BTEC Level 3 Nationals in sport (Extended Certificate, Diploma or extended Diploma).
* Be registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI) before taking up post.
Qualifications and Experience (Desirable)
* Minimum of 1 year’s experience teaching GCSE PE (Practical and/or theoretical units).
* Minimum of 1 year’s experience teaching OS Sport (Unit 51 & 52) Environment & Society.
* Ability to contribute to the extra-curricular programme in Sport, Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and King’s Trust.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
* Demonstrable knowledge of up-to-date specifications in AQA, GCSE PE and BTEC levels 1/2/3.
* Knowledge of the Northern Ireland Curriculum and current assessment methods.
* Effective classroom management and ability to inspire and challenge pupils; ability to work collaboratively with pupils, colleagues, parents, and the wider community.
* High-level commitment to the school ethos and values; willingness to promote equality and good relations.
Conditions and Governance
* Disclosures: Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background may be required if appointed to a post that involves regulated activity; applicant will typically cover the cost of the Enhanced Disclosure Certificate.
