Overview
We are looking for a full‑time social worker to join our Gedling Local Mental Health Team (LMHTs). There is an exciting opportunity to become part of the growing social work workforce within Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. Social workers play a crucial part in improving mental health outcomes for individuals, through understanding the social detriments of mental health and applying a human rights approach.
This role requires advanced relationship‑based skills focused on personalisation and strength‑based working, to support people to make positive, self‑directed change. Successful candidates will work as a social worker in a multi‑disciplinary community mental health team, supporting a caseload of individuals experiencing social issues that impact their mental health.
Social work training and supervision is provided, as well as opportunities to develop intervention skills needed for community mental health practice.
Key Responsibilities
The post holder will demonstrate the principles of social work through professional judgement, decision making and actions within a framework of professional accountability. They will promote and lead on the social perspective and trauma‑informed social model of mental health and wellbeing within the multidisciplinary team. They will value and take account of the expertise of service users, carers and other professionals.
The post holder will work within a multi‑disciplinary team to provide social work expertise that improves mental health outcomes by understanding the social determinants of mental health. This includes completing social work input/interventions, providing care coordination for people experiencing social stressors and completing team responsibilities as required.
The post holder will maintain an individual caseload and complete team responsibilities. They will ensure that all individuals are assessed holistically, balancing risk management and safeguarding with choice, self‑determination and positive risk‑taking underpinned by relevant legislation.
The post holder will focus on strength/asset‑based working, to support people to make positive self‑directed change within their lives and engage with their communities. They will recognise and respond to risk indicators of abuse and neglect, share disclosures appropriately, manage sensitive information and act as the safeguarding link in the team.
The post holder will promote family and carers work within the multidisciplinary team, liaise with the Family Intervention Team, and provide relevant training and interventions to enable this work. They will maintain and provide expertise regarding the application of legislation including the Care Act, Mental Capacity Act, Equality Act, Human Rights Act, Transforming Care, Mental Health Act and other relevant legislation.
The post holder will collaborate with external agencies and Social Care to support individuals in accessing statutory and non‑statutory services, and will work proactively as an effective member of the multidisciplinary team, attending meetings as required.
The post holder will promote a learning culture, share mental health social work best practice, provide supervision to colleagues as required and occasional medication delivery following consultation with the prescriber and relevant procedures.

Essential Requirements
• A full UK driving licence and vehicle for business use (reasonable adjustments will be made for disabled individuals in line with the Equality Act 2010.
• Applicants will be required to pay for their DBS check; the cost is £26.40 (standard) or £54.40 (enhanced) and will be deducted from salary over the first 2 months of employment.
• Enrolment for the DBS Update Service is encouraged; an annual fee of £16 applies.
