Overview

A key aspect of the role is supporting psychological assessment, formulation and interventions with patients who have a learning disability and may experience co-occurring mental health problems and behaviours that challenge. The post is a Band 5, Higher Assistant Psychologist, full-time and fixed-term for 2 years, based with the Gateshead Learning Disability Team. The post holder will be part of a multidisciplinary team and work in an environment with a strong emphasis on teamwork and high quality clinical care.

You will be supported to access relevant training and to participate in service development and service evaluation projects. The service values robust, supportive and effective supervision, with access to both clinical and management supervision. You will be expected to pursue your own continuous professional development with support to identify needs and progress in a meaningful way.

Responsibilities

* Support psychological assessment, formulation and interventions with people who have a learning disability and potential co-occurring mental health problems and challenging behaviours.
* Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary staff by participating in team meetings and clinical discussions, supporting team supervisions, and providing indirect work with patients.
* Participate in the development and delivery of training and take advantage of opportunities to access relevant training as part of the role.
* Engage in service development and service evaluation projects as part of the team.
* Contribute to a culture of supervision and continuous professional development, including pursuing personal CPD needs with support from the service.
* Be part of the psychology team within Gateshead Learning Disability Team.


Requirements / Qualifications

* Experience of paid or unpaid work with people who experience mental health problems and/or other disabilities is essential. Previous community experience is an advantage.
* Experience of working in a learning disability context is desirable.
* Good organisational skills and a motivated, well‑organised, enthusiastic approach.
* Commitment to inclusive practice and ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.


Additional Information

* The post is full-time and fixed-term for 2 years.
* There is a requirement that external applicants pay for their own DBS certification if a DBS check is required for the post, with the payment deducted from the first monthly pay.
